Friday: Milwaukee – Adrian House vs. Atlanta – Yonny Chirinos

Milwaukee starter Adrian Houser has a 3-2 overall record with a 3.86 WHIP. Houser has thrown better on the road than he has at home. Adrian’s road record is 2-1. Houser’s ERA is 3.63 away.

Of Houser’s 49 strikeouts this season, 25 have happened at away matchups. Ah, but although Houser has thrown well, he’s struggled against the Braves lineup.

Atlanta bats .282 versus Adrian Houser. Even though the ATL plans on starting former Tampa Bay Rays player and converted reliever Yonny Chirinos, the Braves get the call.

Saturday: Milwaukee – Julio Teheran vs. Atlanta – Bryce Elder

Teheran’s ERA and WHIP aren’t bad. Julio’s overall ERA is 3.75. The WHIP is a very good 1.04. But when Teheran steps to the opposing mound, he doesn’t throw well. In away games this season, Julio has a 1-3 record and a 5.16 ERA.

So although Teheran has thrown well against Atlanta, we’re hard pressed to back the Brew Crew. Why? We must weigh Julio’s success against the Braves versus his 2023 road woes.

On the other side, the home team plans on starting Bryce Elder. Atlanta’s listed starter is 7-2 overall and 3-1 at home. The home ERA is 3.69 while the overall ERA is 3.30. Consider backing the ATL on the run line.

Sunday: Milwaukee – Colin Rea vs. Atlanta – Undecided

The ATL has yet to decide who they will send to the mound for Sunday’s game. The possible starters include Charlie Morton and Spencer Strider because Max Fried is on the 60-day IL.

Morton has a 3.57 ERA. Strider, Atlanta’s ace, has a 3.73 ERA. But Strider’s home ERA is higher at 4.45. So Atlanta manager Brian Snitker may decide to save Strider for an away game next week.

Milwaukee said they’re handing the ball to Colin Rea. The Braves Sunday starter has a 4.03 away ERA. Atlanta has faced Rea just 6 times overall. So it’s difficult to side the Braves in this game.

Also, no matter if the ATL sends Morton or Strider to the hill, the Braves are likely to be an underlay on the money line. Backing Milwaukee makes sense.
