The mistake that we very often make when trying to predict how the MLB season will play out is not thinking about the season as a whole. How often have we seen a team dominate the first half only to fall away in the latter part of the season as other teams get on a roll? It’s a fairly common occurrence, but you do have to say that a couple of teams look a class above the rest as we approach the midway point of the season. We are 13 weeks in and ready to take a look at the MLB Power Rankings, which look a little different from last week. As we always do, let’s take a closer look at the top and bottom 5 in the rankings so you can continue with your bets against the MLB Betting Lines.
Power Rankings After Week 13 of the 2022 Season | MLB Betting Picks
Top 5
- New York Yankees – No change in the top spot, with the Yankees continuing to set a blistering pace. They are coming off a loss to close out last week, but they are sitting at 58-22 and have what looks to be an unassailable 13 ½ game lead in the East.
- Houston Astros – The Astros came into the season among the favorites to win it all and they are living up to the hype. They ended last week on a 6-game win streak and now have a 13 ½ game lead in the West.
- LA Dodgers – Injures are beginning to become a real problem for the Dodgers, who spent some time in the #1 spot this season. The fact that they are still winning regularly bodes well for when they get back to full strength.
- New York Mets – It’s too early to suggest that their bubble might have burst, but the Mets have been poorer of late, going 4-6 in their last 10 games. They still have the division lead, but they can feel the #5 team breathing down their neck.
- Atlanta Braves – Just a short time ago, the Braves were below .500 and sitting about 8 ½ games back of the NL East leading Mets. They have now closed the gap to 3 ½ games and are sitting with a record of 46-34.
Bottom 5
- Detroit Tigers – As the season progresses, we tend to see the bottom 5 teams remain pretty much the same, although there may be some slight position changes. The Tigers moved up a spot this week and they are 4-6 in their last 10.
- Cincinnati Reds – When one team rises, another has to fall, with the Reds being the team to drop a spot this week. The Reds did close out last week with a win, but they are still just 4-6 over the course of their last 10 games.
- Kansas City Royals – No change at the #28 spot, with the Royals staying exactly where they were last week. Like the teams sitting just above them, they are 4-6 on their last 10, but the Royals did close things out with a win.
- Washington Nationals – It was a rather grim week for the Nationals, as they closed things out on a 4-game losing skid. They are looking for a better start to this week, and as we write, they are tied 1-1 with the Marlins in their Week 14 opener.
- Oakland A’s – With just 3 wins in their last 10 games, the A’s continue to have the worst record in baseball and look set to be on the bottom for the foreseeable future.
