One of the most important days annually in the NBA regular season is the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday in the United States and that’s Monday. 2024 NBA Expert Analysis Golden State vs Memphis | MyBookie Sportsbook NBA Week 13
The Memphis Grizzlies always play at home on MLK Jr. Day because he was assassinated in the city at the old Lorraine Motel in April 1968. Golden State visits Memphis on Monday, and the Warriors will be favored on the NBA odds but by how much depends on the status of a few key players on both sides.

Series History
This is the first meeting of the season between the teams. Golden State leads all-time 53-50 but trails 31-22 as the road team and has lost its past five in Memphis. The most recent meeting was March 18, 2023 in Memphis and the Grizzlies prevailed 133-119. Jaren Jackson Jr. had 31 points and four blocks and Desmond Bane added 26 points. The Warriors faced a 14-point deficit in the third but made 16 of 19 free throws and a handful of 3-pointers to cut into Memphis’ advantage. Golden State got within one possession a couple of times early in the fourth, but Memphis went on a 21-3 run to seal it.
Why Bet on Golden State Warriors?
The Warriors opened this road trip with a 140-131 upset win in Chicago on Friday but then rested Steph Curry on Saturday and lost 129-118 in Milwaukee. The game featured 18 lead changes and nine ties, the last coming with eight minutes left in the fourth quarter, 96-all. Milwaukee then outscored Golden State, 33-22, the rest of the way, totaling 46 points in the fourth quarter, tied for the most the Warriors have allowed in any quarter this season. The Bucks’ 75 second-half points were the most allowed by the Warriors in the second half of any game.

Golden State played not just without Curry but Draymond Green (return to competition reconditioning), Chris Paul (left hand fracture), Gary Payton II (left hamstring strain) and Moses Moody (left calf strain). Curry will play Monday and Green might finally make his return. Coach Steve Kerr has said Green could play in either or both of the final two games of the Warriors’ road trip Monday and Wednesday in Memphis and Utah, respectively. The other guys are out longer-term.
Jonathan Kuminga led the Warriors Saturday with a career-high 28 points off the bench, while rookie Brandin Podziemski recorded his third double-double with a career-high-tying 23 points and game-high-tying 10 rebounds, and Klay Thompson added 21 points. With six 3-pointers, Thompson (2,342) moved into seventh place on the NBA all-time career 3-pointers made list, passing LeBron James (2,338).
Golden State is fourth in the NBA in rebounding in averaging 46.1 boards a game despite being the shortest team (averaging 77.5 inches or 6-foot-5) in the league. Golden State is tied with Brooklyn for second in offensive rebounding (12.9). The Warriors have outrebounded their opponent in 22 games this season.
Curry has scored 113 points in clutch minutes this season — the final five minutes of the fourth quarter or overtime when the score is within five points. Curry leads the NBA in points (113), 3-pointers (19) and field goals made (32) in clutch minutes this season. Curry is 30-of-31 at the free throw line in clutch minutes.
This is the 11th time in the last 12 seasons the Warriors are playing on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, sixth straight time on the road. The Warriors have won 11 of the last 13 games they have played on this day, including seven of the last eight. This marks the first time the Warriors and Grizzlies face each other on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Since Martin Luther King Jr. Day was first observed in 1986, the Warriors have a 20-10 record (15-7 at home, 5-3 on the road) on that day.
Why Bet on Memphis Grizzlies?
The Grizzlies have had worse injury luck than any team this season and that’s why they are 14-25 and enter on a two-game skid. Star Ja Morant and center Steven Adams are both done for the season. Morant only played nine games off suspension before getting hurt and Adams hasn’t played at all. Neither has forward Brandon Clarke, but he hopes to return after the All-Star break. Guard Marcus Smart, the team’s big offseason trade addition, is out at least six weeks with an injury to his right ring finger.

The team’s two best players now are big man Jaren Jackson Jr. and guard Desmond Bane but both missed Saturday’s 106-94 home loss to New York. Jackson Jr. has a good chance of playing here but Bane, who is having a career year, suffered a sprained ankle last Friday and probably sits another few games at least. Bane, 25, is averaging 24.4 points, 4.6 rebounds and 5.3 assists in 37 games in his fourth NBA season.
That meant eight Memphis players, most of them significant contributors, were out against New York, including the team’s top five scorers. GG Jackson led the Grizzlies with 20 points off the bench vs. the Knicks. A two-way player, Jackson has spent most of his first professional season with the G League’s Memphis Hustle, but he could be in store for an extended stay with the Grizzlies while the NBA squad contends with numerous injuries. Jackson just turned 19 years old last month; he’s the youngest player in the NBA. With all those guys out Saturday and with Jake LaRavia (ankle) also exiting early, Jackson made the most of his season-high 27 minutes.
Vince Williams chipped in 17 points, eight rebounds and eight assists in the loss. Williams, a former two-way player, has seen an uptick in minutes of late, logging 25 or more minutes in each of his last four appearances, and he’s putting up averages of 12.0 points, 6.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game in that span. Williams recently got a contract extension from the team.
“It’s unique, but we have to look past that,” Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins said of playing through the injuries. “Our guys have been unbelievable through all of this. I always talk about the spirit and how they just continue to fight. Our circumstances are pretty heavy right now for sure. But the attitude has been phenomenal.”
Memphis had a streak of at least 10 made three-pointers end at 19 in a row in the loss against New York, which was the longest such streak in franchise history, supplanting the team’s 13-game streak to start this season.
Luke Kennard is shooting 50.8 percent from 3-point range in his last 12 games played and 42.5 percent from beyond the arc this season. The Grizzlies have won seven games this season despite trailing entering the fourth quarter, the most in the NBA.
