NFL Wild Card Odds to Win: AFC & NFC Teams in the Battle for the Postseason

We have one more round of regular season games to come in the NFL before we get to the start of the playoffs.

For the most part, the teams heading into the postseason have been settled, although there will be a couple of games this weekend that will determine the final spots, as well as the seedings.

NFL Wild Card Odds to Win Analysis

The teams that finish top of the conference standings will get a bye and a bit of a chance to heal up before the start of the playoffs, but the rest are going to need to head into the Wild Card and try to survive what is always a crazy weekend of football.

Winning from the Wild Card path is always tough, but there is always the chance that a team can do it.

With that in mind, let’s take a look at the odds for each team who will be heading into Wild Card Weekend.

NFL Wild Card Odds to Win AFC

The Kansas City Chiefs have once again clinched the #1 seed in the AFC, plus we have 3 teams heading into the final weekend set to battle it out for the lone remaining spot in the playoffs. We will talk about those 3 teams later in this section, but let’s get to the others first.

Buffalo Bills +590

There was some chatter ahead of this season suggesting that the window of opportunity for the Bills may have already closed. That now looks foolish in hindsight, as this is a team that pushed all the way to have the #1 seed, as well as being the only team to beat the Chiefs this season. Ignore the Bills at your own peril.

^

Baltimore Ravens +650

It was something of an up and down season for the Ravens this year, but they have come good at the end and look set to finish on top of the AFC North, although that will not be decided until the final week of the season. There is a lot to like about the Ravens, but their lack of playoff success in the Lamar Jackson era is still a sticking point.

^

Houston Texans +620

Last season was something of a revelation for the Houston Texans, who thrived with rookie QB CJ Stroud under center. The belief was that they would take another big step forward this season, but they have essentially been the same as they were last season. A playoff win could happen, but a Super Bowl seems like a longshot.

^

Pittsburgh Steelers +520

After looking as though they had the AFC North all wrapped up, the Steelers have gone cold and head into the final week of the season on a 3-game losing skid. They do have a great defense and a QB with Super Bowl winning experience, but you would like to see them win in Week 18 to get back on track.

^

LA Chargers +3500

There is often a period of adjustment when a new head coach takes the reins, but that has not been the case for Jim Harbaugh, who is taking his team to the playoffs in year one. This is a group that is defensively sound, which could make them a real threat in the postseason. Definite dark horse in the making.

Battle for the Final Spot

As we mentioned at the top of this piece, we have 3 teams in the hunt for the final spot. The Denver Broncos (+6600) are in pole position, as they get in with a win over the Chiefs in the final game, which is certainly not guaranteed. If they lose, the door opens for the Miami Dolphins (+26000), who will face the Jets in Week 18, and the Cincinnati Bengals (+22000), who will face the Steelers. You look at those matchups, and it seems as though the Dolphins might have the inside track to seed #7.

NFL Wild Card Odds to Win NFC

The #1 seed in the NFC is not yet fully decided, but it does look as though the Detroit Lions will end up in that spot. We are going to assume that the Lions will be the top seed, so with that in mind, let’s look at the Wild Card spots and the odds of each team in there.

Philadelphia Eagles +660

The Eagles still have an outside shot at leapfrogging the Detroit Lions, but when you consider that this team has some injury concerns at the QB spot, the likelihood of them making that move seems unlikely. Their hope now will be that Jalen Hurts is ready to go for the postseason run.

^

LA Rams +3200

One of the things to watch heading into the postseason is the recent for of every team taking part. With that in mind, everyone has to keep an eye on the Rams, who head into the final week of the season on a 5-game winning streak. Winning the Super Bowl seems like a bit of a stretch, but this is a team no one wants to face right now.

^

Minnesota Vikings +850

Given that QB Sam Darnold appeared to be a bust, we all looked at the rise of the Vikings, with Darnold under center, as something that could not possibly. We have all been proven wrong, though, as this team is a legitimate championship contender.

^

Washington Commanders +3800

Making it to the playoffs with a rookie QB under center is always a bonus, which is exactly what the Commanders have done with Jayden Daniels. He has cooled off a little in the closing weeks of the season, but it is not outside the realm of possibility that this team goes on a playoff run.

^

Green Bay Packers +1525

Hard as it may seem to believe, the Packers are down in the #7 seed despite winning 11 games this season. This just shows you how strong the NFC North has been this season. It would not be a surprise to see one of the 3 teams from the North go to the Super Bowl this season, so why not the Packers?

^

Battle for the Final Spot

The team that wins the NFC South will land the #4 seed, but who will that be? The Tampa Bay Buccaneers (+3100) have the inside track, but they still need to beat the Saints this weekend to secure their spot. If they lose and the Atlanta Falcons (+34000) beat the Carolina Panthers, it will be Atlanta that gets in. My money is on the Bucs to nab that final spot.
