Week 18: Monday, August 5th – Sunday, August 11th, 2024

2024 MLB Season

Major League Baseball turns its page to the first full week of August.

The dog days of summer are alive and well for the league.

The divisional races are heating up, and the individual awards are going to come down the stretch.

Let’s take a look at some of the top pitchers to follow for Week 19 of the season:

Writer’s Pitchers Picks for MLB Week 18

Brady Singer, Kansas City Royals

The Kansas City Royals are doing their best to stay in the race within the American League.

The Royals are well over .500, and battling with Minnesota for second in the wildcard race.

Brady Singer gets the nod for the Royals, and he is 8-6 on the season.

His ERA is under 3.00, at 2.88.

Singer gets Boston on Monday.

He may not get a second start this week, as the Royals have Thursday and Sunday off, but we like his chances to throw well in his start, and if he goes again on Saturday, don’t count him out against St. Louis.

Aaron Nola, Philadelphia Phillies

Nola is one of the best pitchers in the National League.

His start on Monday is going to be against a tough Los Angeles Dodgers team.

That is a tough task to start the week.

Especially, with Tyler Glasnow going for the Dodgers.

Nola would get a second start on the road at the Diamondbacks.

Philadelphia seems to be in a bit of a free fall, but Nola is a great hurler to get them back on track.

JP Sears, Oakland Athletics

JP Sears has been one of the most consistent pitchers for Oakland this season.

Despite his 8-8 record and 4.53 earned run average, he is a bright spot for the Athletics.

Sears gets a chance on Monday to take on the Chicago White Sox.

Everyone knows what is going on with the White Sox, and their inability to win a game.

If he gets a second start, Sears will get a game at Toronto over the weekend.

Two teams, both that have struggled to hit for most of the season.

Looks like a nice chance to grab some wins for Sears.

Zac Gallen, Arizona Diamondbacks

Gallen and the Diamondbacks are heating up, as they are looking to grab one of the wildcard spots in the National League.

Gallen gets the Guardians on Tuesday, and would be in line to throw against the Phillies on Sunday.

That’s two tough tasks for the right handed ace from Arizona.

But, if anyone can do it, it is Gallen, who has struck out six in each of his last two starts.

Gallen is seeking his 10th win of the season.

Chris Sale, Atlanta Braves

Sale gets a chance to take on the Milwaukee Brewers again.

This time, he will be at home in Atlanta.

There is a good chance Sale will get two starts, as Tuesday is the first of 13 straight games.

At the end of the week, the Braves are on the road at the Rockies.

That’s a pretty good schedule for a left-hander.

If Sale can get his outing he had at Milwaukee on July 31st, he will have another good chance to win two games this week.

There you have it. Those are the top pitchers to follow this week in major League Baseball.

Enjoy the week and best of luck with all your Major League Baseball betting.

MLB Week 18 Pitching Preview: Top Arms to Target for MLB Pitcher Prop Bets

Previous Betting News

The trade deadline has passed, and we are now heading down the homestretch of the regular season in the MLB. As expected, we saw a few big-name pitchers move to a new address, which could prove to be good news for those guys, as most are leaving to be part of a contending team. It is going to be interesting to see what sort of impact these trades end up making, but we will find that out soon enough. For now, our focus is on the week ahead and the starting pitchers who could make an immediate impact. As we do every week at this time, we are going to select 4 pitchers we believe can get the job done over the next few days to consider in your MLB betting odds.

MLB Week 18: Monday August 7 – Sunday August 13, 2023

Max Scherzer

Texas Rangers | #31
Bats: Right / Throws: Right

Scherzer was one of the big names on the move at the trade deadline, leaving behind the Mets to head to the Rangers, who are very much in the playoff picture. Scherzer started with a win in his opening game with his new teams and will be on the mound again on Tuesday night to face the struggling Oakland A’s. This seems like a matchup perfectly suited to Scherzer as he looks for win #11 on the season. I would be very surprised if he did not get that W, while also upping his strikeout tally in the process.

Shohei Ohtani

Los Angeles Angels | #17
Bats: Left / Throws: Right

If there is a better player in the MLB right now other than Ohtani, it’s hard to imagine who it might be. The question now is whether the Angels will be able to hold onto him after this season is said and done, as this is a player who wants to win championships, which is something that looks unlikely for the Angels. At this stage in the season, Ohtani is sitting at 9-5 with an ERA of 3.32. The Angels lost in his last start, but in the game before that one, Ohtani pitched the full 9 innings and surrendered just 1 run. Look for another dominant performance against the Giants on Wednesday.

Aaron Nola

Philadelphia Phillies | #27
Bats: Right / Throws: Right

While the NL East certainly looks to be heading the way of the Atlanta Braves, the Phillies are still very much in the Wild Card picture. They will have a very winnable series against the Nationals later this week, with Nola set to get the start on Thursday night. He has been a little up and down this season, posting a 9-8 record and an ERA of 4.58. Nola has lost in each of his last 2 starts, but this seems like the perfect matchup to get him out of that slump. Look for the Phillies to win and Nola to put in a good performance against the Nats on Thursday.

Corbin Burnes

Milwaukee Brewers | #39
Bats: Right / Throws: Right

The NL Central is very much up for grabs, which should make the final couple of months of the season a lot of fun to watch. Right now, it is the Brewers who have the lead in the division, but it is tight. Friday night will see Milwaukee hit the road to face the Chicago White Sox, with Corbin Burnes set to get the start in that one. He is 9-6 on the season with a 3.42 ERA. The Brewers have won 6 of the last 8 games that he has started, so let’s take them to win again on Friday.
