Potential NHL Eastern Conference Series

Carolina Hurricanes vs Florida Panthers

Carolina and Florida appear to be on a collision course. In the past few weeks, the Panthers and the Hurricanes have switched off as the outright chalk to win the Stanley Cup. This week, heading into the postseason, the Hurricanes are the +600 favorite while Florida is the +700 second choice to win the Cup.

As of April 15, the Panthers are on a 3-match winning streak. So Florida is ending the regular season playing excellent hockey. Carolina has won 8-of-10 as of April 15.

The Hurricanes are also playing terrific hockey, which is why this Eastern Conference Series makes sense. Keep reading to find out keys for each team to win this potential conference series along with a final pick.

Key to a Carolina Victory
The Hurricanes must find a way to breakthrough Florida’s blue line. The Panthers boast a +65 goal differential. Although that’s one less than Carolina’s +66, Florida has allowed less than 200 goals heading into their final 2 matches.

Sebastian Aho, Martin Necas, and Jordan Staal must get through Florida’s electric defense, which means if Carolina wishes to win, they have to take chances. Luckily, the Hurricanes has been awesome this season, dropping 276 pucks into the net.

Keys to a Florida Victory
Florida’s strategy will be to counter Carolina’s aggressiveness. If it ends up Panthers versus Hurricanes, the Eastern Conference Finals will be a contrast of styles.

The Panthers are terrific at playing defense and then taking advantage of missed opponent opportunities. That will be Florida’s key to get it done against Carolina if the two meet in the east finals. Florida has scored just 210 goals this season. The Panthers won’t change their patient strategy in the NHL Playoffs.

Carolina Hurricanes vs Florida Panthers Betting Analysis

Florida will have the right strategy to beat Carolina. However, the Hurricanes are playing out of their minds right now, dominating in almost every phase of the game.

Carolina is surging after winning 8 of their last 10 heading into their April 16 matchup against the Columbus Blue Jackets. If it comes down to Panthers versus Hurricanes, roll the dice on Carolina.

Potential NHL Western Conference Series

Colorado Avalanche vs Edmonton Oilers

The Colorado Avalanche versus the Edmonton Oilers would be a Western Conference Finals matchup of gigantic proportions. On one side, the great Nathan MacKinnon throws down for the Avs.

On the other side, two future hall of fame players, Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, skate for Edmonton. Both teams will lean into the playoffs ready to push to the Stanley Cup Series, which is why Colorado and Edmonton are massive favorites to win the Western Conference.

Check out the key for both the Avalanche and the Oilers to get it done. Then, keep reading for a final betting analysis.

Key to a Colorado victory
Nathan MacKinnon can’t do it all by himself. For sure, MacKinnon is one of the best, if not the best, in the NHL. He leads the Avs in points, assists, and goals.

He’ll require help in the NHL Playoffs. Right winger Mikko Rantanen and defenseman Cale Marker are going to have to give MacKinnon a boost. Rantanen finished second on the Avs with 103 points compared to MacKinnon’s 138.

Marker finished with 89. There’s a massive drop to the fourth point getter, Jonathan Drouin with 56. So if Marker and Rantanen don’t fire this NHL postseason, the Avs won’t get a chance to play the Oilers in the Western Conference Finals because Colorado will bow out in the first round.

Key to an Edmonton victory
Neither Connor McDavid nor Leon Draisaitl leads Edmonton in goals scored. Left winger Zach Hyman is the top goal scorer with 54.

The fact that McDavid and Draisaitl don’t lead Edmonton in scoring goals should be music to the ears of Oilers fans. The reason is because McDavid is the top points person with 132 and Draisaitl is second in points with 106.

Draisaitl and McDavid will step it up. So the key for the Oilers will be to get Hyman involved around the net because the Avs will have no choice but to mark McDavid and Draisaitl the way teams mark Lionel Messi when he’s on the pitch.

Colorado Avalanche vs Edmonton Oilers Betting Analysis

Avalanche versus Oilers will be an exciting series if Colorado makes it. The Avs went 3-5-2 in their last 10 before their final match of the season, a game versus Edmonton.

Colorado has the guns to make it to the Western Conference Finals. Once there, any team with Nathan MacKinnon won’t be out of it. Still, this feels like Edmonton’s year.

The Oilers are 6-2-2 before their April 17 game versus Arizona. Not only that, but Edmonton’s goal differential is +64, which is one better as of April 15 than +63 Dallas, which means the Oilers boast the best goal differential in the Western Conference.

If it comes down to Carolina versus Edmonton, it’s a no-brainer. Back the Oilers to win the West.

Possible NHL Playoffs Matchups 2020

Previous Betting News

The 2019-20 NHL regular season concludes on Saturday, April 4. If past history is any indication, we won’t know all of the Stanley Cup playoff matchups until after April 4 as races in some form seem to come down to the final day every year. Currently at Mybookie, the Tampa Bay Lightning are +650 favorites to win the second Stanley Cup in team history followed by the Washington Capitals and Boston Bruins both at +700. Here’s a look at the current NHL playoffs matchups in each conference, but needless to say some if not all of these are going to change by early April.

Possible NHL Playoffs Matchups 2020

EASTERN CONFERENCE NHL PLAYOFFS

Boston vs. Philadelphia

Probably surprise you to know that the Flyers lead the series 2-0, although both were wins in shootouts. They play one last time on March 10. Boston’s David Pastrnak is a Hart Trophy candidate as he’s tied for first in the NHL with 42 goals and tied for second with 82 points.

Tampa Bay vs. Toronto

This would be easily the most entertaining first-round series in terms of offensive talent. The Lightning may overtake Boston for the No. 1 overall seed as the Bolts are on an 11-game winning streak. That’s a franchise record. The Lightning became the first team to win 40 games for the third straight season after also doing so in 2017-18 and 2018-19 (outright or tied). They became just the third team in NHL history to accomplish the feat in three or more consecutive campaigns, joining the Oilers (4 from 1983-84 to 1986-87) and Canadiens (3 from 1959-60 to 1961-62; 4 from 1975-76 to 1978-79).

Tampa Bay, which surrendered the game-opening goal for just the third time over the course of its 11-game run, has only trailed for 57:47 over its current stretch as opposed to having led or been tied for 608:32. Tampa beat Toronto 7-3 in the lone meeting on Oct. 10.

Washington vs. Carolina

Washington leads the Metropolitan Division, while Columbus is the top Wild-Card team currently. The Blue Jackets have won two of the three meetings and the one loss was in a shootout. The clubs haven’t played since Dec. 27. Capitals defenseman John Carlson has reached 70 points to match his single-season career high (13-57—70 in 2018-19). Only four different defensemen in the last 30 years have required fewer games to record their 70th point of a season.

Pittsburgh vs. NY Islanders

All three of the games between these teams have gone to overtime, with the Islanders winning two. All three were in November, though. They play one last time on March 15.

WESTERN CONFERENCE NHL PLAYOFFS

Edmonton vs. Calgary

Edmonton’s Leon Draisaitl could become the first player to reach 100 in 61 games or fewer since Mario Lemieux of the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1996-97 (100 points; 44 goals, 56 assists in 61 games). Tampa Bay Lightning forward Nikita Kucherov, who won the scoring title last season, reached 100 points in his 62nd game. Only three different players in Oilers history have reached 100 points in 61 games or fewer; the last one was Wayne Gretzky, who did it in 43 games in 1987-88. Draisaitl has 95 points as of this writing. Edmonton is 3-1 vs. Calgary this year.

Vegas vs. Vancouver

The Canucks made a big move on Monday, landing forward Tyler Toffoli from Los Angeles. The 27-year-old has 18 goals and 34 points in 58 games this season. “Tyler brings goal-scoring abilities and is good in battles,” general manager Jim Benning said. However, young star winger Brock Boeser is out with a rib cartilage fracture and will be re-evaluated in three weeks’ time. Boeser has 16 goals and 45 points in 56 games this season. This series is tied 1-1 this year.

St. Louis vs. Arizona

Of course, the Blues were Stanley Cup champions for the first time last season but have lost both meetings vs. Arizona this year. On Monday, 21-year-old Clayton Keller found the score sheet for the third time in five games and netted his 50th career goal with Arizona. Among players to debut with the Coyotes, Keller (229 GP) required the second-fewest games to reach the benchmark, with Daniel Briere (181 GP w/PHX) standing as the only player to do so in fewer contests since the club relocated to Arizona.

Dallas vs. Colorado

The Avalanche got awful news Monday as first-line winger Mikko Rantanen left Monday’s game against Tampa Bay late in the second period with what appeared to be shoulder injury. He was sent crashing into the boards after being tripped up by Lightning defenseman Erik Cernak. Rantanen missed 16 games earlier this season with an ankle injury. He has 19 goals and 41 points this season, while being limited to 42 games. Rantanen is now going to miss “weeks” per coach Jared Bednar.
