Does defending champion Golden State offer overlay or underlay odds?
Right now, the odds make Golden State an underlay. The reason being is that three players who were important to Golden State’s march to the Finals, Kevin Looney, Gary Payton II, and Otto Porter Jr., are free agents.
The Warriors paid Andrew Wiggins a ton of money. Those three players insist they wish to stay with Golden State, but money talks and people walk. That’s a cliché, but in this case, it’s perfect.
Looney, Payton II, and Porter Jr. have never made Wiggins type money. They won’t this offseason either, but all three could make more playing for a contender and trying to repeat what they accomplished at Golden State.
Expect at least 2 of those 3 players to bounce. So GS will find it hard next season to pull off the back-to-back.
Which team among the Celtics, Nets, Bucks, Clippers, and Suns has the best chance of winning the NBA title?
The Suns might be the biggest underlay on the board. Phoenix, no doubt, will lose DeAndre Ayton. Not only that, but the organization is in the midst of a serious scandal. The Suns’ window has closed.
The Celtics window might be closed. The nucleus couldn’t get it done this season. Why would they get it done next season? The Clippers are a decent squad and Kawhi Leonard should return, but players that take off a couple of seasons don’t always return and play as well as they did before getting injured.
The Nets don’t look like a championship caliber team. But the Bucks, yeah, they’re good. Milwaukee was a Khris Middleton injury away from possibly beating the Boston Celtics and returning to the NBA Championship series. Milwaukee is a great play at their current odds.
Which team in the +1500 to +2600 odds range is the best play to win the NBA Championship?
We can never discount the Miami Heat because the organization is so strong. But Jimmy Butler is a year older and it may be tough for Pat Riley and Alonzo Mourning to improve the team.
There are questions surrounding the 76ers, the Nuggets, the Lakers and the Grizzlies, which means the best play in this odds range are the Dallas Mavericks.
Mark Cuban knows that with better play from his front court, the Mavericks may have made it to the NBA Finals. Expect Cuban to search far and wide for the big that will help Luka Doncic and his mates make it to the NBA Finals.
Which super underdog squad can go from the cellar to the top of the NBA mountain in 2023?
The NBA isn’t like the NFL because only five players step onto the court at one time. It’s much easier to find a worst to first team in the National Football League than it is in the Association.
Next season, though, if things go right, there is a team that could suddenly become a playoff squad. The team is the Sacramento Kings.
The Kings may draft Jaden Ivey. If they do, Sacramento should have the makings of a solid starting five. Domantas Sabonis is a very good center.
De’Aaron Fox is a great point-guard. Davion Mitchell or Ivey could play the 4 and the other could play the 2. Sacramento could switch Harrison Barnes from the 4 to the 5, which would allow the Kings to play a fast, smaller line-up.
Then when Sacramento wanted to go big, Ivey is good enough to play the point, put Fox onto the bench, and play Mitchell at the 2 with Barnes at the 4 and Trey Lyles at the 5. It sounds crazy, but if Sacramento drafts Jaden Ivey, they can become an instant playoff team.
