There are times when sport takes a backseat to things in life that are much more important. That happened on Monday night, when Damar Hamlin of the Buffalo Bills collapsed on the field after suffering a cardiac arrest. The game between the Bills and the Bengals, which was huge in terms of the playoff picture, was eventually suspended, with the league saying that they will try to finish it at a later date. The problem there is that we are heading into the final week of the regular season, so it’s tough to see where that game would fit in at this point. While we wait to see how that plays out, we can still look at the playoff picture in both conferences, keeping in mind that the AFC is now a little muddled. Let’s break down both conferences at the end of the regular season so you can continue planning your bets against the NFL Playoffs Odds.
Playoff Picture Before Reaching the Week 18 of the 2022-23 Season | NFL Betting Predictions
AFC
As it stands at the moment, the Kansas City Chiefs are in the #1 spot, although they would be ousted if the Bills do get to complete the game against the Bengals and win it. Setting the #1 seed aside for the moment, we do know that the Chiefs, Bills, Bengals, Chargers, and Ravens are all in. That leaves a pair of open spots waiting to be filled and a handful of teams in with a shot at doing so.
The biggest game of the final weekend sees the Tennessee Titans and Jacksonville Jaguars square off in a game that will see the winner take the South Division and earn themselves an automatic playoff spot. Given their current form, it is the Jaguars who looks the most likely to win that one.
That leaves the #7 seed the only spot left to fill, and we have 3 teams vying for that spot. The Patriots hold the #7 spot right now and can keep it with a win over the Jets. The Dolphins need to beat the Bills and get help, while the Steelers need to beat the Browns and hope that New England and Miami lose.
NFC
The Philadelphia Eagles went from a shoo-in to be the #1 seed to a team that now might not even win the division. With Jalen Hurts on the sidelines, the Eagles lost 2 in a row, but the good news is that they think he will be back this weekend, The Cowboys are waiting to pounce if that happens, while the San Francisco 49ers, who have now won 9 in a row, are also looking to nab the #1 spot.
The Vikings and Buccaneers have both punched their tickets as division winners, while the New York Giants have also made it into the postseason and are currently in the #6 seed. The top 6 is essentially set in stone, save for the final seedings, but the #7 spot is still up for grabs.
The Green Bay Packers, who looked dead in the water just a few short weeks ago, have now won 4 in a row and can steal that #7 seed with a win in the final week of the regular season. If they stumble, the Seattle Seahawks or Detroit Lions could potentially fill that final slot. Momentum is huge in this sport, and you have to say that it’s the Packers who have it at the moment.
