2024 MLB Odds for the Top Pitchers to Follow in Week 8 | Baseball Betting Analysis for the Regular Season

2024 MLB | 155th edition of professional baseball in United States
Week 8: Monday, May 20th – Sunday, May 26th, 2024

Dillion Cease, San Diego Padres

Cease, with some movement in the schedule, is on track to go on Monday in the first game of the doubleheader. His first game of the week is going to be a challenge, as they take on the Atlanta Braves. One of the best hitting teams in all of the game. After they are done with the Braves, San DIego goes to Cincinnati, and then back home to take on the Yankees. Cease should get the start on Sunday against New York. Both those starts are none too easy, but he has elite stuff. The Padres brought him over to be an ace, and that’s what we are looking to see.

Sonny Gray, St. Louis Cardinals

Gray has been pretty solid this season, with a 5-2 record. His ERA has gone up quite a bit the last two outings. He will look to right the ship, but his first start of the week will be against the Baltimore Orioles. The Baltimore offense has produced one of the best in the league this season. His second start will be at home against the Chicago Cubs to wrap up the home stand. The Cubs have been pretty hit or miss offensively. Look for a nice week from the first year Cardinal right hander.

Marcus Stroman, New York Yankees

Stroman will get a chance to make two starts this week. His first will be at home on Monday against the Mariners. His second should be Saturday in San Diego. Stroman comes into the week with a 3-2 record and a 3.33 earned run average.- The right hander has thrown 48.2 innings this season and struck out 42 batters, and walked 25. He is going to be tested by two tough offensive squads, but his stuff can really shut down opposing offenses at times.

Framber Valdez, Houston Astros

The Astros left hander will make his first start of the week at home. He will get a chance to beat the Los Angeles Angels. His second start of the week will come over the weekend in Oakland. Valdez is 3-1 on the season with a 2.95 earned run average. He has battled some injuries, but is averaging just shy of a strikeout per inning. Look for Valdez to keep pushing as Houston tries to climb back to the .500 mark.

Gavin Stone, Los Angeles Dodgers

Stone, one of the underrated arm pieces of the Los Angeles Dodgers, got a chance to take on divisional rival Arizona on Monday. He will then head to Cincinnati over the weekend to take on the Reds. The Reds have been struggling, and we like Stone to keep that trend continuing. Two starts from Stone in this game, and we like his chances in both.

MLB Odds and Picks: Pitchers to Back in the Week 8

Previous Betting News

With so many games on the MLB schedule in a given week, it can be tough to know where to begin when making wagers. One of the first places where many bettors start is by looking at the pitching matchups for the week. There are always pairings that look to be something of a mismatch, but we are all well aware that this is not the only thing you should take into account when betting on baseball. It’s nice to have an in-form pitcher on the mound, but it can mean nothing if the bats are cold. What we are going to do here is look at the next few days and the pitchers that could well be worth looking at when it comes time to bet on the MLB, so let’s go ahead and do that.

MLB Pitchers to Back after Week 7 of the season | MLB Lines by MyBookie

Nathan Eovaldi
Texas Rangers

Given that he is coming off a loss in his last start versus the Atlanta Braves, where he had an ERA of 3.86, there may be some who would pass on Eovaldi. That is not the case for me, though, as I think he has a bounce back game on Tuesday night against the slumping Pittsburgh Pirates. Prior to the loss last time out, Eovaldi went on a 3-game tear, pitching in 25.2 innings and failing to give up a single run. I like him to get back to that type of form in his next start, which is why I have him on this list.

Bryce Miller
Seattle Mariners

Honestly, at this stage of the proceedings, taking any pitcher starting against the hapless Oakland A’s seems like a good idea, but I am particularly high on Bryce Miller of the Seattle Mariners, who is scheduled to start against the A’s on Wednesday night. He took his first loss of the season in his last outing, which came against the hard-hitting Atlanta Braves, but his numbers are still amazing. He is 2-1 through 4 starts with an ERA of just 1.42. In the 3 games he started before that loss, he gave up just 1 earned run. I think he will mow down the Oakland batters.

Lucas Giolito
Chicago White Sox

Of the pitchers listed in this article, Giolito probably has the poorest stats of the lot, but I still think he is worth a look in his next start, which is scheduled for Thursday night against the Detroit Tigers. The Sox lost 3 of his last 4 starts, before he pitched a beauty in his last outing. That one came in a 5-1 win over the Kansas City Royals, where Giolito pitched 6 innings and had an ERA of 1.50. That felt like a bit of a turning point in his season, so I am prepared to play him again in his next start.

Chris Sale
Boston Red Sox

Okay, this is another one that may not seem like an obvious pick, especially when you see that Sale has an ERA of 5.01 right now. Yes, that’s a good deal higher than what we would like, but he still finds ways to get a win, which is why he is at 4-2 on the season. He is also coming off a win, where he had an ERA of 2.57, with the Red Sox winning in 3 of his last 4 starts. Sale might just be getting in a groove, so I am going to take a shot here.

I have read enough, I need to place my bet now. What to do?

MLB Odds and Picks: Pitchers to Prevent during Week 8

Previous Betting News

Just like football teams lean heavily on their QB, MLB teams very often live or doe by their starting rotation. It’s not a surprise that the teams who have the most quality starts from their staff over the course of a long season are very often the ones in the playoff conversation. There are, of course, exceptions to the rule, such as when a team that has a ton of power in the lineup can bail out poor starts from their pitching staff. Still, the pitching matchups are a good thing to pay attention to when it comes time to start betting on the MLB. We have already looked at some pitchers to start this week, but how about some to avoid? Let’s get into that now.

MLB Pitchers to Avoid after Week 7 of the season | MLB Lines by MyBookie

Jose Berrios
Toronto Blue Jays

Last season, the Blue Jays did not get what they needed from their pitching staff, and while their hitters continue to deliver, it is pitching once again that is doing them in this season. They have lost 5 in a row and now have a series with the Tampa Bay Rays to contend with. Berrios is scheduled to start and will be looking to bounce back from a loss his last time out, where his ERA was 4.05. That loss means that he is now 3-4 on the season with an ERA of 4.61. I think he might be in for a rough time of things against Tampa.

Zack Greinke
Kansas City Royals

I think it’s more than fair to say that the dominant years for Greinke are now in the rearview mirror. He is having a bit of a nightmare season with the Kansas City Royals, going 1-5 with an ERA of 4.82 through the opening 7 weeks of the season. Things have been a little better at home, which is where he will be in his next start, but he is still 1-2 with an ERA of 3.21 in those outings. It certainly doesn’t help that he gets very little in the way of run support, but it all adds up to a pitcher to avoid for now.

Eric Lauer
Milwaukee Brewers

Lauer is scheduled to start on Thursday night at home to the San Francisco Giants, which I already have penciled in as a loss. Lauer is 4-5 on the season with an ERA of 5.48. That is certainly not great, but it gets even worse when he takes the mound in his own ballpark, where he is 1-3 with an ERA of 8.44. OUCH!! He will start against a Giants team that is in a decent run of form at the moment, and with Lauer giving up 11 ER in his last 3 starts, things could get ugly pretty quickly.

Kyle Muller
Oakland As

The Oakland As are an absolute mess and a team in flux, as it looks as though they will be making the move to Las Vegas sooner rather than later. It would be easy to simply bet against them every night, but some matchups just seem way worse than others. Muller is scheduled to take the mound on Friday night when Oakland hosts a Houston team that seems to have finally found their groove. They should jump all over Muller, who is 1-4 with an 8.03 ERA on the season. He has taken the loss in 2 of his last 3 and given up 17 runs in that stretch.

I have read enough, I need to place my bet now. What to do?
