NFL Week 17: Thursday, December 28th – Sunday, December 31st, 2023
NFL Week 17 Power Rankings By Team
1. Baltimore Ravens 12-3
Could there be any other? In what was supposed to be a Super Bowl 58 preview, the Ravens rolled the 49ers 33-19. The game happened in the Bay, so Baltimore’s win was as legit as it gets.
2. San Francisco 49ers 11-4
The Niners came crashing down to earth. Sometimes, a team requires a kick in the mouth to get going again. San Francisco will bounce back.
3. Miami Dolphins 11-4
For the first time this season, the Fins beat a team with an above .500 record. The win came against a solid Dallas club.
4. Detroit Lions 11-4
Detroit locked down their first division title in what feels like forever. Expect a bounce versus the Cowboys this weekend. But who cares? Detroit is in the playoffs.
5. Philadelphia Eagles 11-4
Jalen Hurts and his buds ended a 3-game losing streak with a nice, but not spectacular 8-point victory over the Giants.
6. Dallas Cowboys 10-5
Dallas’ loss to Miami was a quality defeat. The Cowboys played well enough to win. The ball bounced Miami’s way more than it did for Dallas. That happens sometimes.
7. Cleveland Browns 10-5
Joe Flacco is the league’s comeback player of the year. He’s playing lights out, which makes Cleveland a legit Super Bowl contender because the D is fantastic.
8. Buffalo Bills 9-6
The Bills won their third straight and 4-of-5. Buffalo is peaking at the right time. If the Bills make the postseason, give Josh Allen and his crew a shot to win it all.
9. Los Angeles Rams 8-7
There are few teams in the NFC that can take down the 49ers in the playoffs. Matthew Stafford, who has thrown 14 TDs to a single pick in the last 5 games, and the Rams are one of those teams.
10. Kansas City Chiefs 9-6
Maybe, the Chiefs aren’t that good. Losing to the Raiders was bad. Losing to the Raiders in Kansas City was terrible.
11. Tampa Bay Buccaneers 8-7
Baker has the Buccaneers rolling. 4 straight victories and counting.
12. Houston Texans 8-7
C.J. Stroud should return this week, which means the Texans are the team to beat in the logjam AFC South.
13. Cincinnati Bengals 8-7
The loss to Pittsburgh was pathetic. The Bengals D made Mason Rudolph look like Ben Roethlisberger.
14. Jacksonville Jaguars 8-7
More pathetic than losing to the Steelers was how the Jaguars fell to the Buccaneers on the road in a game they had to win.
15. Seattle Seahawks 8-7
Seattle used defense to get a big win against the Tennessee Titans. The Seahawks are fighting for one of only two wild card spots.
16. Indianapolis Colts 8-7
Indianapolis falls to the near the end of the 8-7 Crew. The reason? The Colts did nothing in a 29-10 loss to Atlanta.
17. Pittsburgh Steelers 8-7
Pittsburgh’s offense stepped it up against Cincinnati. Will the Steelers find consistency on that side of the ball? Probably not.
18. Minnesota Vikings 7-8
Oh what could have been if Kirk Cousins hadn’t gone down with an injury. But Cousins did get hurt. So . . .
19. Atlanta Falcons 7-8
Taylor Heinicke gave the Atlanta a big spark. Unfortunately, it’s too little, too late.
20. Green Bay Packers 7-8
Injuries ruined the Packers playoff push. The team has some talent. So expect Green Bay to be a team to watch next season.
21. Las Vegas Raiders 7-8
The win against the Chiefs was all about the defense. Antonio Pierce deserves to be the head coach. He’s getting so much more out of the Raiders than Josh McDaniels ever did.
22. Denver Broncos 7-8
Denver’s playoff push just ran out of steam. That was a tired bunch that lost to the Patriots in NFL Week 17.
23. Chicago Bears 6-9
The Bears have the makings of a playoff contender. The key is to trade Justin Fields and draft a quarterback like Caleb Williams or Drake Maye.
24. New Orleans Saints 7-8
New Orleans has a lot of talent. It didn’t come together this season. Dennis Allen will be the fall guy.
25. New York Jets 6-9
The Jets must rebuild the offensive line and get ready for Aaron Rodgers’ return. Also, the J-E-T-S defense requires a run stopper or two.
26. New England Patriots 4-11
Baily Zappe should have been the starter all along. He doesn’t make the same bad decisions. It doesn’t mean the Patriots stick with Zappe this offseason. But he’s definitely better than Mac Jones.
27. New York Giants 5-10
Brian Daboll benched Tommy DeVito and sent Tyrod Taylor to the field. TT almost led the Giants to a comeback victory over the Eagles.
28. Los Angeles Chargers 5-10
The Chargers require real leadership. Expect a veteran coach, maybe Bill Belichick, to turn around the franchsie.
29. Tennessee Titans 5-10
Will Levis has some talent. But the Titans require much more than Levis to develop before contending for the playoffs.
30. Arizona Cardinals 3-12
Will Kyler Murray remain a Cardinal next season? Or will Arizona attempt to sell high? Murray, for sure, has NFL quarterback starter talent.
31. Carolina Panthers 2-13
Again, the Panthers land ahead of the Commanders on the power rankings. Carolina played a decent team in Green Bay, gave it their all, and came up just 3 points short. The Panthers have heart.
32. Washington Commanders 4-11
Washington should stick with Sam Howell. They won’t, of course, the Commanders will gut the team in the offseason. Gutting a team rarely works.
