Week 1 Against the Spread Picks | 2020 NFL Odds

  • When: Thursday, Sep. 10 – Monday, Sep. 14

Thursday, Sep. 10 Match

  • Houston Texans / Kansas City Chiefs -9 ½

The Chiefs look much better than the Texans. Rookie running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire played in a pro style offense with the National Champion LSU Tigers. Edwards-Helaire could win rook of the year honors this season. Patrick Mahomes should be as sharp as ever while the Texans traded away Deshaun’s security blanket. Things could get ugly for Houston on Thursday night.

NFL Pick: Kansas City Chiefs

Sunday, Sep. 13 Matches

  • Miami Dolphins / New England Patriots -6 ½

The Dolphins will start Ryan Fitzpatrick. Makes sense. Why? Miami’s offensive line may still be one of the worst units in the league. Patriots’ quarterback Cam Newton knows how to play the game. He won the NFL MVP earlier in his career and has improved his completion percentage in the past couple of seasons. New England rolls.

NFL Pick: New England Patriots

  • Cleveland Browns / Baltimore Ravens -7 ½

This is a much tougher assignment for the Ravens than many believe. The Browns spent heavily on rebuilding the offensive line. That’s a good thing because so far in his career Baker Mayfield has had to run for his life. Baltimore is the better team. 7 ½ are too many points.

NFL Pick: Cleveland Browns

  • New York Jets / Buffalo Bills -6 ½

Jets versus Bills is one of those games where on paper it looks as if the Bills should have no trouble covering the spread. However, the Jets aren’t a terrible squad. They’ve got some talent and, truth be told, they may have an advantage at the quarterback position. That could be enough for the J-E-T-S to keep this closer than the number.

NFL Pick: New York Jets

  • Philadelphia Eagles -6 / Washington Football Team

Many feel the Philadelphia Eagles are a good enough football team to win the Super Bowl. Most of those feelings derive from Carson Wentz, who is a very good quarterback. But Wentz may not be enough to beat a team that, finally, has shed some of its past. That past may be one of the reasons D.C. has played so awful for so long. Now, with a fresh start, who knows? The Washington Football Team could surprise on Sunday.

NFL Pick: Washington Football Team

  • Chicago Bears / Detroit Lions -3

The Bears project as one of the worst teams in the NFL this season. The offense is a disaster. Neither Mitch Trubisky, nor Nick Foles, should play well enough to save this team. The defense will be okay as long as Khalil Mack stays on the field. Detroit upgraded the offense and defense. If everything comes together, the Lions can win the NFC North.

NFL Pick: Detroit Lions

  • Indianapolis Colts -8 / Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jaguars are a mess, yes. But 8 points at home? Okay, it makes sense since few, if any, fans will be in the stadium. However, Gardner Minshew III had some okay games last season. The rushing attack should be better with Fournette out of the fold and the defense isn’t terrible. Jax could make this close.

NFL Pick: Jacksonville Jaguars

Monday, Sep. 14 Match

  • Tennessee Titans -110 / Denver Broncos -110

The Broncos have upgraded their offense, no doubt. The biggest issue? The one that will keep them from winning this game? Von Miller may be out for the season. No way Denver stops Derrick Henry for rumbling for close to 200 yards with VM watching from the sidelines.

NFL Pick: Tennessee Titans
