Why Buccaneers over 6 ½ is a good bet?
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers made the most important change this offseason that an NFL team can change. The Bucs decided to overhaul their coaching staff. Instead of trying to placate quarterback Jameis Winston, Tampa Bay brought in one of the most experienced and successful head coaches available, Bruce Arians.
Arians is a two-time NFL coach of the year. He took the Arizona Cardinals to the playoffs. He also took the Colts to the playoffs in 2012. Almost as important as hiring Arians was the Bucs allowing Arians to put together a great staff. Todd Bowles, the former Jets head coach is in charge of the defense. Many consider Byron Leftwich a football offensive genius.
The Buccaneers have talent on both sides of the football. With this coaching staff, Tampa could see dividends right away in the form of victories.
Why Buccaneers under 6 ½ is a good bet?
The Buccaneers decided to cut DT Gerald McCoy. They signed Ndamukong Suh to a 1-year contract. When Suh tries hard, he’s still one of the best in the NFL. He’s not as good as McCoy at this stage of his career, though.
More importantly, the schedule is ridiculous. Not only must the Bucs battle the Saints, Panthers, and Falcons twice, but the deep AFC South, the Jags, Titans, Colts, and Texans are on the schedule. Tampa also plays at the L.A. Rams and at the Seattle Seahawks this season.
Tampa Buccaneers 2019 Regular Season Total Wins Final Analysis
The Buccaneers total wins seems way too high. After all, the Bucs have won more than 6 games only once in the past 6 seasons. That was in 2016 when they went 9-7. That was also the last time they had an experienced coach leading the charge.
Although Arians and his staff will improve Tampa, the Buccaneers schedule doesn’t flatter their chances. There are only 3 for sure wins on the schedule: the Detroit Lions, the Arizona Cardinals, and the New York Giants, and the Lions aren’t really a for sure victory. Arians is a great coach. But even Arians could have trouble getting Jameis Winston to take the next step.
That’s probably what Arians and Byron Leftwich will try to figure out this season. Does Winston deserve a long term contract? Or, is it time for the Buccaneers to move on? This is a transition year for Tampa, which means don’t win more than 6 games.
