The first big event is the Pegasus World Cup.

Although the Pegasus happens in the new thoroughbred racing season, it can have an effect on the Eclipse Award.

Many older handicap horses use the Pegasus to cap the previous year’s season, which means we can expect horses like White Abbario, 2024 Kentucky Derby winner Mystik Dan, and Breeders’ Cup Classic champ Sierra Leone to run in the Pegasus.

Saudi Cup – February 22

In 2024, Senor Buscador won the Saudi Cup, Ushba Tesoro finished second, and Saudi Crown finished third.

All three could return for a massive rematch in 2025.

Not only are those three likely to run but so will horses from Japan, the United Kingdom, and other parts of the world.

The Saudi Cup has a purse of $20 million.

Brad Cox has three fillies bordering on superstardom: Immersive, Good Cheer, and Muhimma.

All three could end up in the Oaks’ starting gate.

Trainer Bob Baffert will have at least one runner and we should expect Todd Pletcher to also run a filly.

Triple Crown Races

• Kentucky Derby – May 3
• Preakness Stakes – May 18
• Belmont Stakes – June 7 at Saratoga

The biggest news for this year’s Triple Crown races is that Churchill Downs lifted the ban on Baffert horses.

Bob has a strong hand and make no mistake, the greatest trainer in horse racing history wants to win the 2025 Run for the Roses.

Baffert won the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile with Citizen Bull.

Gaming, another Baffert runner, finished second.

Bob’s pointing both the Derby, Preakness, and Belmont.

Once again the Belmont will be run at 1 ¼ miles at Saratoga due to renovations at Belmont Park.

The winner of the Kentucky Derby is almost assuredly going to bet he favorite to win the Belmont since both races are at the classic distance of a mile and a quarter.

Travers Stakes – August 23

The mid-Summer Derby often clues us in as to which three-year-olds are poised to show up on Breeders’ Cup Day.

2025 Breeders’ Cup World Thoroughbred Championships

The best thoroughbred’s in the world descend on Del Mar in Oceanside on October 31 and November 1 in 2025 for the annual 2-day Breeders Cup Thoroughbred Championships.

Todd Pletcher and Chad Brown, Fierceness’s and Sierra Leone’s trainers, are pointing to the Classic, which is why both are likely to keep their star runners on the bench until the spring or summer.

Forever Young, Ushba Tesoro, Saudi Crown and the Triple Crown race winners are also likely to go in the Classic.

The 2025 Kentucky Oaks winner is almost assuredly going to run in the Distaff.

Top turf stars will arrive from the United Kingdom, Japan, Coolmore and Irish trainer Aidan O’Brien and the powerful Godolphin stable in Dubai.
