Why Bet on Hawks versus Miami?

The Atlanta Hawks come into the NBA play-in tournament, having lost two games in a row, going 41-41 for the year. In fairness to the Hawks, those two straight losses came when their seeding in the Eastern Conference was already decided, and key players were rested as a result. But Atlanta’s stars will be back on the floor for this game, and they will look to prove that the changes they made since last season were enough to beat the Heat.

Specifically, the additions of guard Dejounte Murray and head coach Quin Snyder will be important in this play-in matchup. Murray’s perimeter defense and ability to score from the mid-range could rival those of Jimmy Butler here. Meanwhile, Snyder’s ball movement and three-point shooting-centered coaching style could end up testing one of the best defenses in the NBA in South Florida.

Atlanta Hawks Defensive Averages

Why Bet on Heat versus Atlanta?

The Miami Heat finished the regular season at 44-38 on the year, with last year’s Eastern Conference runners-up facing a much tougher path to the conference finals this time around. While the defense of the Heat was one of just two teams to allow under 110 points per game this year, their offense has been cause for concern throughout the year. Miami has averaged 109.5 points per game, making them the only team averaging under 110 points per game on offense.

In this game, the return of Kyle Lowry could be a huge piece of the puzzle for the Heat. Miami has been without the services of Lowry for much of this season, but his return boosts the depth of the Heat guard group. Having Lowry available to start will allow players like Gabe Vincent the ability to come off the bench and deliver against bench competition that is easier for him to handle.

Miami Heat Offensive Averages

  • 3PT %: 34.8
  • FT %: 83.1
  • Rebounds/G: 48.5

Miami Heat Defensive Averages

Atlanta Hawks at Miami Heat Betting Odds and Prediction

For the Hawks, the key to this game is going to be whether or not they can slow down Jimmy Butler in crunch time. Atlanta is tied for the worst defensive mark among teams to finish in the top 10 in either conference this season, giving up 118.1 points per game. With Butler proving himself as an elite crunch-time scorer last postseason, the Hawks have to step up on the defensive end of the floor to avoid an elimination game.

For Miami, the number one key to this matchup will be whether or not their defense can continue to be great. Facing the guard duo of Trae Young and Dejounte Murray can turn even the best defensive group into a group of turnstiles when Young and Murray are at their best. Miami needs to stay connected at all times to avoid any problems in this contest.
