Happy April 1st! The final couple weeks of the National Hockey League regular season. Before we start the postseason, we wanted to give some bold National Hockey League predictions for the final weeks of the regular season.

New York Rangers Win the President’s Cup

Not an overly bold prediction, as they sit a point ahead of Dallas with 9 games to go in the season. The Rangers are red hot and recently picked up an overtime win over Colorado. New York’s remaining schedule is fairly soft, without a top team in the league remaining. In fact, most of the schedule for the Rangers from here on out will miss the postseason. Look for the Rangers to get around 115 points and win the President’s Cup.

Colorado Avalanche Win the Western Conference Regular Season

The Avalanche are on the outside looking in to Dallas, but are ready to pounce once again. These two teams are going to meet up on April 7th, with the game in Denver. Before that, the Avalanche need to take care of business, including three in a row on the road at Columbus, Minneapolis and Edmonton. This is a talented team, and another Colorado roster that can win the cup in 2024.

St. Louis Blues Reach the Postseason in the West

This might be our biggest reach of them all. The Blues are 9th in the West, and looking to chase down either Vegas or the Los Angeles Kings. St. Louis has played better hockey as of late, going 6-3-1.  But, the loss on Saturday was a crushing one to San Jose. They still have some familiar faces from the 2019 run to the cup, where they won it all. This is a gritty team, so they will compete. They have a fairly soft schedule in April, as they have the Ducks, Blackhawks and Kraken in a stretch of 5 days. The Blues are going to win down the stretch, and knock off Los Angeles from making the postseason.

Dallas Stars Lose in First Round of Postseason

The Dallas Stars were the first team in the Western Conference to clinch their postseason ticket. Now, the Stars are looking to keep the top seed in the West. Dallas though is our pick to lose in the first round. We feel Colorado is going to overtake them for the top spot, which would mean they miss a chance to take on Los Angeles or St. Louis in the first round. In fact, getting second in the Central means a date with Winnipeg, or potentially Nashville. We like the Jets in a best of seven series against Dallas. Our prediction right now is that Dallas does NOT make it out of the first round of the postseason.

The Western Conference will be won by a Central Divisional team. Three teams from the Central are in the Top 10 of betting odds. Colorado is +850, Dallas is +1000 and Winnipeg comes in at +1300. Sure, the Golden Knights went a season ago, and won it all. Something is not right with the Golden Knights this season, and they do not seem healthy. Not sure they are going to get to full health. Edmonton is good, but trusting them in the postseason is a dangerous idea. Colorado is our top pick, but with matchups unknown, we are taking a Central Divisional team.

NHL Playoff Lines and Prediction #2

The Vegas Golden Knights will not win a single playoff round in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. We mentioned above our concerns with the Golden Knights. Sure, Vegas is still a talented hockey team, and have been pretty solid with their goaltending. But, in the postseason you need consistent scoring, and not sure the Golden Knights are getting that with their injuries. Mark Stone appears to be out for the postseason, and Jack Eichel has come back, but still not fully healthy. We are taking Vegas to lose in the first round of the postseason.

NHL Playoff Lines and Prediction #3

The New York Rangers are going to win the Stanley Cup. The Rangers are 10/1 odds to win it. They are currently leading the Metro Division over Carolina. The Rangers are not too far behind the Panthers for the top spot in the East. There is a reason the Panthers are the betting favorites; they are loaded, and just came off a win at Madison Square Garden against the Rangers. But, when push comes to shove, in a seven game series, we like Artemi Panarin and the New York Rangers. Igor Shesterkin comes up huge between the pipes, and the Rangers get 16 postseason wins, and they win their first Stanley Cup in 30 years. At 10/1 we love this pick!

It could be full of surprises, but in the end, these are our top three predictions we like alot. It will be fun to see how they play out, and which teams head to the Stanley Cup finals! There are still games to be played in the NHL regular season and playoff matchups still to be decided, but it’s impossible not to look ahead at what might come once the postseason does get underway. There are a few clear favorites at this stage of the season, but also a team or two that might be ready to cause an upset once the race for the Stanley Cup begins. Given that we don’t yet know the final matchups for the opening round, it is tough to make NHL Playoffs Betting predictions, but let’s look at how things might play out if the playoffs started today.

Eastern Conference Betting Predictions for Postseason

While not yet official, it does look as though the Florida Panthers are on the brink of clinching the #1 seed in the East. As it stands now, the Panthers would face the Washington Capitals and we could certainly expect a close series given that the last 5 meetings have all been decided by a single goal. The Panthers have taken 2 of 3 from Washington this season, so look for them to move on in 6.

The Toronto Maple Leafs would face a divisional opponent in the Tampa Bay Lightning, who are also the defending champions. It is the Leafs who have all the momentum right now, and while this would be a great series, I would take Toronto in 7.

I think we are looking at a clearer cut outcome if the matchup between the Carolina Hurricanes and Boston Bruins comes to pass. The Hurricanes have won all 3 regular season meetings versus the Bruins, outscoring them 16-1 in the process. I would take Carolina to win this series in 5.

We would have another divisional matchup if the playoffs started now, with the New York Rangers and Pittsburgh Penguins squaring off. The Rangers have taken 3 of 4 from the Penguins this season and would be a good bet to win in 6.

Western Conference Betting Predictions: 2022 Playoffs

Over in the West is where we find the current favorites to win the Stanley Cup. That would be the Colorado Avalanche, who would open against the Dallas Stars if the playoffs started today. The Avs lead the regular season series 3-2, so this might be closer than some expect. Still, I like Colorado to move on in 6 games.

They have only met once this season, but going back to last season, the Nashville Predators have taken 3 on a row from the Calgary Flames. These two actually meet up on Tuesday night this week, so that might be one to watch as a potential Round 1 preview. A tough one for the Flames, but I think they would go through in 7 games.

We would have a Pacific Division matchup if the playoffs started today, with the Edmonton Oilers and LA Kings squaring off. I see the Oilers as a potential dark horse this season and given that they have taken 3 of 4 from the Kings, including wins in the last 3 meetings, I’d see the Oilers moving on in 5 games.

This is the time of year to get hot, which is exactly what the St. Louis Blues are doing. They have won 9 in a row at time of writing and would open up their playoff run against the Minnesota Wild, who they have beaten in 4 of 5 meetings this season. The Blues in 5 looks like the bet here.
