Betting MyBookie Horse Racing in March: Top Stakes Races for the Weekend

Two of the most significant three year old prep races for the 2025 Kentucky Derby happen on Saturday.

At Gulfstream Park, the Florida Derby takes place where morning line favorite Sovereignty will break from post position 10.

Then over in Arkansas, Oaklawn runs the Grade 1 Arkansas Derby where Bob Baffert hopes Barnes secures a spot in the Run for the Roses.

Check out more info for those two races as well as other great horse race betting stakes action happening at both Gulfstream and Oaklawn on Saturday.

Writer’s Picks on the Top Thoroughbred Stakes Races Happening this Weekend

Grade 3 Ghostzapper

1 1/16 miles dirt – 4 year olds and up
Saturday, March 29th, 2025
Gulfstream Park

Horse racing odds should make White Abbario, the top finisher in the Grade 1 Pegasus World Cup in January, a close to even money favorite.

White Abbario goes for Saffie Joseph Jr. while one of the top jockeys in the world, Irad Ortiz, rides.

Saffie saddles a couple of more horses in this, Super Corinto and Power Squeeze, but neither has a shot versus White Abbario if that one is right.

Consider playing an exacta with a couple of longshots underneath the projected massive favorite.

Dropping Pletcher runner Tuscan Sky from the exacta could lead to a decent profit if Abbario goes gate to wire.

Bet Grade 3 Ghostzapper Stakes: Gulfstream Park

Grade 3 Orchid Stakes

1 ½ miles turf – 4 year old fillies and up
Saturday, March 29th, 2025
Gulfstream Park

Graham Motion trained Beach Bomb is the likely chalk due to her first place finish in the Grade 3 Very One in the last.

But Beach Bomb could be prone for an upset.

The likeliest one to put Beach Bomb into the second half of the exacta is Claude McGaughey trained Silvology.

Shug’s runner won an allowance at Gulfstream earlier in March.

The victory first time against winners happened in the race right after the maiden score, which tells us Silvology has figured out some things.

Expect her to respond to every cue Dylan Davis provides.

Building exotics around Silvology looks like the way to go in the Orchid on Saturday.

Bet Grade 3 Orchid Stakes: Gulfstream Park

Grade 2 Pan American Stakes

1 ½ miles turf – 4 year olds and up
Saturday, March 29th, 2025
Gulfstream Park

The Pan American is shaping up as one of Saturday’s most competitive stakes races Capture the Flag won the Grade 2 Mac Diarmida in the last.

Todd Pletcher trains.

So we know Capture the Flag is well meant.

Mark Casse has a contender in Corruption.

Going from an allowance to a Grade 2 isn’t easy, but Casse is a master at moving equines up in class.

Corruption breaks from post 1 where she can save ground before pulling out and making a run.

Far Bridge and Cash Equity both have chances.

Cristophe Clement, one of the top turf trainers on the planet, puts the saddle on veteran Far Bridge.

Cash Equity goes for Saffie.

Everything Saffie sends to the track is live.

Spend time handicapping the Pan American so you don’t miss the value play.

Bet Grade 2 Pan American Stakes: Gulfstream Park

Grade 2 Gulfstream Park Oaks

1 1/16 miles dirt – 3 year old fillies
Saturday, March 29th, 2025
Gulfstream Park

The Gulfstream Park Oaks is one of the top preps for the Kentucky Oaks , which is why trainers like Saffie Joseph Jr. and Shug McGaughey will saddle runners.

Saffie has another strong hand in a stakes at Gulfstream.

Joseph Jr. has entered three: Paradise City, Early On, and The Queen’s MG.

Of the three, The Queen’s MG is the likeliest winner but she won’t offer much value.

Both Early On and Paradise City can win the Gulfstream Park Oaks if they improve enough.

Shug’s entry should offer value.

Cassiar finished first in a maiden race at Tampa Bay in the last.

If she improves, she can win this.

So don’t discount.

Of George Weaver trained Five G gets lost in the betting, consider for sure.

The second place finish in the Grade 3 Honeybee was nice and sire Vekoma had all kinds of talent.

Bet Grade 2 Gulfstream Park Oaks: Gulfstream Park

Grade 1 Florida Derby

1 1/18 miles dirt – 3 year olds
Saturday, March 29th, 2025
Gulfstream Park

Sovereignty will go off the chalk but Bill Mott’s Juddmonte Farms trained Fountain of Youth winner must break from post position 10 and faces a strong field.

Madaket Road did the early work in the Grade 2 Rebel before fading to second.

Baffert trains Madaket Road.

So we should expect a nice performance.

Todd Pletcher is trying the maiden score to Grade 1 winner move by entering Disruptor.

The Gun Runner sired colt has all the tools to win the Florida Derby.

We can’t discount but we must take into consideration the field, this year’s Florida Derby is deep, and whether Disruptor is mature enough to handle the competition.

Watch out for Brad Cox’s entry, Tappan Street.

The second place Holy Bull finisher gets the services of Luis Saez.

Cox has been tearing it up in these three year old prep races and he’s winning with big mutuel horses like Final Gambit, which paid over $30.

So keep in mind when building exotics.

Bet Grade 1 Florida Derby: Gulfstream Park

Grade 2 Fantasy Stakes

1 1/16 miles dirt – 3 year old fillies
Saturday, March 29th, 2025
Oaklawn Park

The Fantasy is going to be an awesome race.

John Ortiz trained Quietside won the Grade 3 Honeybee in the last.

Bob Baffert sends Grade 3 Santa Ysabel winner Maysam to Arkansas for the Fantasy.

Simply Joking won the Silverbulletday in the last.

Runnin N Gunnin goes for Steve Asmussen and took home the Sunland Park Oaks.

No doubt, the Baffert runner is going to go off the favorite.

But if the odds are too low for a win bet, consider backing one of the others, especially Quietside or Simply Joking, which because of their trainers, might offer much better odds to win than the Baffert or Asmussen runners.

Bet Grade 2 Fantasy Stakes: Oaklawn Park

Grade 1 Arkansas Derby

1 1/18 miles dirt – 3 year olds
Saturday, March 29th, 2025
Oaklawn Park

Mark Casse hopes Sandman puts it all together in the Grade 1 Arkansas Derby.

The likely favorite has the style, Sandman is a closer, to win the Kentucky Derby.

But Sandman must prove he belongs in the Roses field.

Bob Baffert is rolling the dice with Cornucopian.

The last out maiden winner has talent and will offer massive odds.

So if you believe, go for it.

Baffert’s other runner, Barnes, will either go off at lower odds than Sandman or second choice behind the Casse entry.

Kenny McPeek will run two: First Division and What Me Worry.

McPeek is hoping one finishes in the top three and with enough points to enter the starting gate on the first Saturday in May.

Both D. Wayne Lukas and Brad Cox are hoping for some Arkansas luck.

The Coach goes with Bestfriend Rocket.

Cox saddles Passion Rules and Admiral Dennis.

Steve Asmussen also has a runner in Publisher.

If you can make a case against Sandman and Barnes, you should find yourself on a horse offering overlay odds.

Look for the value when building exotics.

How to Bet on Horse Racing Lines? Let’s Find Out

How to Read on Horse Racing Lines?

Reading horse racing lines is essential for any bettor looking to make informed wagers. These lines offer essential information regarding the horses, their odds, and additional details that can assist you in determining which bets to make.

Here’s a breakdown of how to read horse racing lines:

1. Horse Names and Numbers

The initial section of the racing line typically shows the name of the horse along with the number given to the horse for that specific race. This aids in recognizing each horse, particularly when several have comparable names.

2. Post Position

Post position denotes the horse’s initial location in the race. It’s crucial to observe whether the horse is beginning from the inside or outside, as this can affect their performance, particularly on specific tracks.

3. Odds

Odds are the figures that indicate a horse’s likelihood of victory. These are presented in forms such as fractional (e.g., 5/2) or decimal (e.g., 3.50). Reduced odds signify favorites, whereas increased odds imply the horse is an underdog.

  • Example:
5/2 odds mean that for every $2 you wager, you would win $5 if the horse wins.
  • Odds Format:
In the U.S., you’ll often see fractional odds (e.g., 5/2, 3/1), while other parts of the world may use decimal or moneyline odds.

4. Jockey Information

The jockey’s name or number is usually included in the line.

Experienced jockeys tend to improve a horse’s chances, so it’s important to consider the jockey’s past performances.

5. Trainer

The name of the trainer reveals who has trained the horse for the competition. Similar to the jockey, an experienced trainer can greatly influence a horse’s likelihood of victory.

6. Recent Performance (Past Races)

A horse’s recent performance (often shown in a shorthand format like "1st" or "3rd") will be listed, indicating how the horse has finished in previous races.

Pay attention to whether the horse has been consistent or has shown improvement.

  • Example:
"1st in the last race" means the horse won its most recent race, while "3rd" means it finished in third place.

7. Race Times

The time it took for the horse to finish previous races is often included. Faster times usually indicate a horse in good form.

8. Speed Figures

Many race programs will provide speed figures, which are numerical ratings based on a horse’s performance in past races.

Higher figures generally indicate a faster, stronger competitor.

9. Class and Distance

Class refers to the quality of the race (e.g., claiming, allowance, graded stakes).

Horses performing well in higher-class races are typically stronger competitors.

Distance tells you how long the race is, which can be important, as some horses excel at different race lengths.

10. Track Conditions

Weather and track conditions (e.g., "fast," "good," "muddy," or "sloppy") can significantly affect a horse’s performance.

Horses may perform better on certain track conditions, so check whether the track is dry or wet.

11. Pace and Running Style

The pace refers to how fast the race is expected to be run, and the running style indicates whether a horse is a front-runner, stalker, or closer.

This can give you insight into how the horse might perform based on race dynamics.

12. Betting Options

You’ll also see betting options like win, place, and show along with exotic bets (e.g., exactas, trifectas, superfectas).

These options help determine how you can wager on a horse.

By carefully reviewing the horse racing lines at MyBookie, you can better understand the strengths and weaknesses of each horse in a given race and make more informed betting decisions.

Whether you’re focusing on racing lines, jockeys, or past performances, every element of the line can give you valuable insights to increase your chances of success.

Writer’s Picks on the Top Thoroughbred Stakes Races Happening this Weekend

Jimmy Winkfield Stakes

6 furlongs – 3 year olds – $125,000
Saturday, March 15th, 2025
Aqueduct

Six will go in the Jimmy Winkfield. No doubt, Richard Dutrow trained Ican is going to go off the chalk.

The Dutrow trainee has the advantageous outside draw, which will allow jockey Manny Franco to see what his competitors are doing to the inside of him.

Bill Mott trained T Kraft is the likely second choice. The rail draw is not ideal but jockey Jose Lezcano is a master at positioning.

Check out the action on Saxton from the Brittany Russell barn. Russell is as good as it gets at preparing horses for stakes races.

Bet Jimmy Winkfield Stakes: Aqueduct

Virginia Oaks

1 1/16 miles dirt – 3 year old fillies – $250,000
Saturday, March 15th, 2025
Colonial Downs

A field of eight plans on breaking from the starting gate in the Grade 3 Virginia Oaks.

Thorpedo Anna trainer Kenny McPeek has a strong hand. McPeek sends out Anonima and Gowells Delight.

Anonima projects as a top three horse race betting choice.

Tom Amoss will also run two, You’ll Be Back and Low Key. Both can get it done if the race shape goes either’s way.

Although Saffie Joseph Jr. trained Early On is at 8/1, Saffie doesn’t run them unless they have a shot. Consider for sure.

Bet Virginia Oaks: Colonial Downs

Virginia Derby

1 1/8 miles dirt – 3 year olds – $500,000
Saturday, March 15th, 2025
Colonial Downs

A field of ten will try their legs at the 1 1/18 mile distance of the Virginia Derby.

Bob Baffert sends Getaway Car to Virginia to contest the VA Derby. The Baffert runner is the favorite at 9/5.

If you’re looking to beat Bob’s three year old, consider Rapture from Brad Cox’s barn, or Cox’s other runner, John Hancock.

John Hancock is the more highly rated sophomore but Rapture has ability and if Cox can find a way to get it out of the colt in this race, watch out.

The others will offer overlay odds. So get creative if you think you can beat Baffert and Cox.

Bet Virginia Derby: Colonial Downs

Hutcheson Stakes

6 furlongs dirt – 3 year olds – $150,000
Saturday, March 15th, 2025
Gulfstream Park

The winner of the Hutcheson is likely to have to beat both of Brad Walsh’s entries.

Walsh sends Heretickle and Bright Lights Joe to the starting gate.

Plex and Senor Money are the other two that could attract big money.

This Horse gets the rail. If Plex can establish an early lead, or if the rail presents a speed bias on Saturday, then Plex could be long gone.

Bet Hutcheson Stakes: Gulfstream Park

Captiva Island Stakes

5 furlongs dirt – fillies and mares 4 and up – $115,000
Saturday, March 15th, 2025
Gulfstream Park

The Captiva Island Stakes is a small field but it looks ultra-competitive.

Saffie Joseph trained R Harper Rose and Bandontherun from the Cristophe Clement barn break 1-2.

If the pair get into a speed duel, then Mark Casse trained Dancing Duchess should be there to pounce.

Tiger Belle on the outside has an advantage. Not only does she pick up Luis Saez to ride, Luis is one of the top speed jocks in the world, but the Robert Dibona trainee can sit off R Harper Rose and Bandontherun before pouncing. The Captiva Island should be a great race.

Bet Captiva Island Stakes: Gulfstream Park

Queen Stakes

6 furlongs artificial – fillies and mares 4 and up – $125,000
Saturday, March 15th, 2025
Turfway Park

Eleven will go in the Queen Stakes. There may not be a true favorite because often in full field stakes races over artificial surfaces, it’s tough to distinguish the real chalk horses.

In this case, the money is likely to side with Steve Asmussen’s Lithe Spirit and Brad Walsh trained Cloudwalker.

Mike Maker’s Moonlit Lady will also attract action. We’re going to have take our time handicapping the Queen Stakes because we want to make sure to include a few longshots into our exotics.

Bet Queen Stakes: Turfway Park

Grade 3 Whitmore Stakes

6 furlongs dirt – 4 year olds and up – $250,000
Saturday, March 15th, 2025
Oaklawn Park

Five of the nine runners offer a morning line of 5/1 or less. Brad Cox trainee Giant Mischief is the 5/1 equine. Closethegamesugar is at 9/2.

Tejano Twist, which breaks from the rail, is the second choice on the ML at 7/2.

The 3/1 favorite, Steve Asmussen trained Booth, breaks from post 3. John Ortiz trained Happy is a Choice is 4/1.

The Whitmore Stakes might be a good race to use a key horse in the tri and super.

Also, it could be a good chance to pick a winner at overlay odds because the betting should make one of the top five choices the clear cut favorite.

Bet Grade 3 Whitmore Stakes: Oaklawn Park

Santa Anta Stakes Grade 3

1 ¼ miles downhill turf – 4 year old fillies and up – $100,000
Saturday, March 15th, 2025
Santa Anita Park

Whan Phil D’Amato sends a filly or mare to the grass in a stakes race at Santa Anita, she’s always well meant.

Starry Heavens is going to make a nice run in this for D’Amato.

However, there are a couple of east coast invaders that we must respect. Richard Dutrow goes with Kathynmarissa.

Frankie Dettori, one of the greatest grass jocks in history, steps aboard.

Jonathan Thomas, one of the nation’s best grass trainers, saddles Mrs. Astor. The Santa Anta is going to be fantastic, strategic, race.

Handicap trainers and jockeys as well as the horses.

Bet Grade 3 Santa Anta Stakes: Santa Anita Park

Grade 3 Hurricane Bertie Stakes

6 ½ furlongs dirt – 4 year old fillies and mares
Saturday, March 8th, 2025
Gulfstream Park

Bill Mott trained Nic’s Style goes into this after winning the Minaret in the last.

But Nic’s Style might not offer favorite’s odds.

Favoritism could fall to Ian Wilkes trained Into Champagne, which last ran in the 2024 Kentucky Oaks.

Saffie Joseph saddles an interesting entrant in R Disaster, which won an allowance at Gulfstream in the last.

Spirit Wind also goes for Saffie.

She won the Poinsettia.

Joseph Jr. has another entrant in Save Time, a last out maiden winner, which means Saffie has the strong hand heading into the Hurricane Bertie.

Grade 3 Challenger Stakes

1 1/16 miles dirt – 4 year olds and up
Saturday, March 8th, 2025
Tampa Bay Downs

Six are scheduled to run in the Grade 3 Challenger.

Saffie Joseph Jr. is going to saddle the chalk, Skippylongstocking.

The Exaggerator sired horse finished third in the Grade 1 Pegasus World Cup in the last.

Brad Cox sends Most Wanted back to the racetrack.

Most  Wanted finished second in the Grade 2 Clark Stakes in 2024.

If Cox has Most Wanted ready, for sure the talented runner will challenge Skippy.

Patriot Spirit, Instant Coffee, O Captain, and Bendoog have the talent to hit the board.

But beating Most Wanted and Skippylongstocking is going to be tough to accomplish.

Grade 3 Florida Oaks

1 1/16 miles turf – 3 year old fillies
Saturday, March 8th, 2025
Tampa Bay Downs

In this year’s Florida Oaks, Mark Casse, Brendan Walsh, and Graham Motion will all saddle two runners.

Casse is likely to put the bridle on the outright chalk, Nitrogen, which won the Ginger Brew in the last.

Casse’s other runner is Smudge, a last out maiden winner.

Walsh goes with Lush Lips and Celtic Motif.

Lush is the more accomplished of the two.

But Walsh must think Celtic Motif has real talent because the filly finished second in a maiden in her last and Brendan is putting her right into a graded stakes.

Motion’s runners are Smart Union and Pretty Lavish.

Both head into this after winning allowance preps in their last.

Deloraine trained by Eoin Harty, Love You Anyway from the George Arnold barn, and Miavana trained by Mike Maker are wildcards in this.

Keep an eye on the action to see if they’re well meant.

Grade 2 Hillsborough Stakes

1 1/8 miles turf – 4 year old fillies and mares
Saturday, March 8th, 2025
Tampa Bay Downs

If you want to score a nice profit betting the Hillsborough, you’re going to have to find a way to beat the Chad Brown runners.

Both Saffron Moon and Spaliday project to go off at low odds in this.

Graham Motion has a strong hand and might be the one to take down Chad’s equines.

Motion will saddle Gimme A Nother and Sparkle Blue.

Sparkle Blue might attract enough action to make the Brown entrants playable.

Don’t sleep on Kathleen O’Connell trained Damaso.

The five year old mare looked great winning an allowance on the Tampa turf in the last and could parlay the victory into a Grade 2 win.

Grade 2 Tampa Bay Derby

1 1/16 miles dirt – 3 year olds
Saturday, March 8th, 2025
Tampa Bay Downs

One of last year’s top rated two year olds returns to the track on Saturday.

Chad Brown unleashes Chancer McPatrick in hopes that the sixth place finish in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile as the favorite was an anomaly.

Chancer should handle this field if he’s as good as Brown believes he is.

Mark Casse appears to have a talented runner in Brodeur.

The more interesting horse, though, might be Patch Adams.

Brad Cox trains and the third in the Grade 3 Southwest in the last wasn’t horrible.

Brown’s other runner, Hill Road, out finished Chancer McPatrick in the BC Juvenile, crossing the line in third.

Burning Glory could be Bill Mott’s second Kentucky Derby contender.

Sovereignty was brilliant when winning the Grade 2 Fountain of Youth this past Saturday.

Burning Glory goes for Juddmonte, which means the horse is bred to dominate a race like the Tampa Bay Derby.

Grade 2 Azeri Stakes

1 1/16 miles dirt – 4 year old fillies and mares
Saturday, March 8th, 2025
Oaklawn Park

Thorpedo Anna is likely to go off at 1-to-5 in this.

She could be a nice single on Pick 6 tickets but if you want to scoop the pools, any pool, really, try to beat her.

Which filly or mare can take down the champ?

Alpine Princess and Jody’s Pride may have chances.

They aren’t great chances because Thorpedo Anna is as good of a filly as we’ve seen in this sport for a long time.

But they could get it done if Anna isn’t at the top of her game.

Alpine Princess runs for Brad Cox.

Brad doesn’t send horses to the track unless they’re well meant.

Jody’s Pride goes for Jorge Abreu.

Another to keep an eye on is Steve Asmussen trained Recharge.

The Gun Runner sired miss could blossom into Steve’s next great filly.

Grade 1 Beholder Mile Stakes

1 mile dirt – 4 year old fillies and mares
Saturday, March 8th, 2025
Santa Anita Park

Like most races in SoCal, Bob Baffert has the upper hand.

Both Richi and Cavalieri will attract betting dollars to win the Beholder Mile Stakes.

The money, though, might be best suited to back Brad Cox trained Tarifa.

Second in the Grade 3 Falls City in the last, Tarifa has every right to improve.

Hoosier Philly, Ultimate Authority, and Alpha Bella are all quality runners and could have a say in the outcome.

Pan American Stakes

Grade 2
1 ½ miles on turf – 4 year olds and up

Saturday, March 30th
Gulfstream Park

Mike Maker trained Starting Over and Tawny Port from the Cristophe Clement barn, the first two finishers in the Grade 3 Mac Diarmida Stakes, should attract the most action. But don’t settle on backing chalk.

This year’s Pan American is deep. Lucky Curlin, Kertez, and Harry Hood all have chances. So does Candidate going turf to dirt. Street Ready and Public Sector are also a couple that could be in the mix.

Pan American Stakes | US Horse Racing Odds MyBookie Betting Lines for the Races

Gulfstream Park Oaks

Grade 2
1 1/16 miles dirt – 3 year old fillies

Saturday, March 30th
Gulfstream Park

Suncoast Stakes winner and Jorge Delgado trained Power Squeeze could be the one to beat. The Suncoast win was Power Squeeze’s second straight stakes victory since breaking the maiden in her second lifetime race.

Chad Brown trained Ways and Means finished second in the Grade 2 Spinaway in her last. Ways and Means, for sure, will end up the favorite. If you don’t like Ways and Means or Power Squeeze, consider backing a runner like last out maiden winner Do Gooder, Into Champagne, which finished second in the Davona Dale, or Gun Song.

Florida Derby Stakes

Grade 1
1 1/8 miles dirt – 3 year olds

Saturday, March 30th
Gulfstream Park

Although Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner Fierceness bombed in the Holy Bull, the Todd Pletcher runner should go off the chalk on Saturday. Fierceness has the talent to blow this field away. If Fierceness doesn’t fire, Pletcher has some insurance in last out maiden winner Bail Us Out.

Hades, which won the Holy Bull, will attract betting dollars. So will Frankie’s Empire, Grand Mo the First, and Real Macho.

Florida Derby Stakes | US Horse Racing Odds MyBookie Betting Lines for the Races

Oaklawn Mile Stakes

Grade 3
1 mile dirt – 4 year olds and up

Saturday, March 30th
Oaklawn Park

Dennington finished fifth in the Tinsel Stakes in the last. But the Kenny McPeek trained runner has a ton of back class. So we should expect Dennington to go off first or second choice.

Nautical Star, Las Samurai, and Silver Prospector will generate action. Midnight Rising, Frosted Grace, and Necker Island are not without legit shots for the win money. The Oaklawn Mile may end up a small field, but every runner will have a shot to grab the win money.

Oaklawn Mile Stakes | US Horse Racing Odds MyBookie Betting Lines for the Races

Arkansas Derby

Grade 1
1 1/8 miles dirt – 3 year olds

Saturday, March 30th
Oaklawn Park

Brad Cox trained Timberlake may go off at even money to win the Grade 1 Arkansas Derby. The word is out on the Cox trainee. Timberlake took the Grade 2 Rebel in the last and the son of Into Mischief appears to be on the right track.

Will Take It, Dimatic, and Time for Truth should have their fans. Steve Asmussen puts the saddle on Informed Patriot. The horse that could upset Timberlake is the Bob Baffert trained Muth. Although Muth can’t qualify for the Kentucky Derby due to Baffert’s 2024 ban from running horses at Churchill, Bob’s runner has a ton of talent.

This lower level Kentucky Derby prep should be as competitive as it gets. There’s a great chance Todd Pletcher trained Agate Road, second the Grade 3 Sam F. Davis in the last, goes off the chalk.

Other contenders include Lucky Jeremy and Antonio Sano trained Dancing Groom. Northern Flame from the Kenny McPeek barn finished third in the Grade 3 Rebel. Improvement could put Northern Flame into the winner’s circle.

Chad Brown, Mark Casse, and Cherie Devaux will saddle the favorites. Brown projects to put the bridle on the top favorite in well-traveled Adhamo. Casse will run two. Both Strong Quality and Webslinger can upset Adhamo. Joel Rosario steps aboard Beatbox, the Cherie Devaux runner. If Beatbox is at the top of its game, forget it. Rosario gallops that one to the finish line first. Rising Empire, Gigante, and Irish Aces, and Palazzi are others with chances.

Steve Asmussen trained Red Route One and Gasoline from the Todd Pletcher barn will go off first and second. Touch Upon a Star, Black Belt, and Happy American should attract action. Super Corinto and Velocitor also have chances. Then there’s Bad Actor trained by Brad Cox. Make sure you believe before plopping dollars down on that one. Bad Actor doesn’t always show up with a top effort.

Saturday, March 16th, 2024
Santa Anita Park

A full field will lineup for the Grade 3 San Carlos. No doubt, Richard Mandella charge Forbidden Kingdom will go off the chalk. Bob Baffert has a contender in Hopkins. Also, Chad Brown puts the saddle on Nabakov, which might be the most talented of the bunch.

Parnelli and Super Chef have outside chances. So do The Chosen Vron, I’m A Gambler, and Mystification. Respect McLaren Vale.

Any Limit Stakes

6 furlongs dirt

Sunday, March 17th, 2024

One of the most popular Kentucky Derby preps of the Triple Crown Season takes place when top three year olds throughout the nation head to Florida for the Tampa Bay Derby.

Jose Francisco D’Angelo has the home town hope in Grade 3 Sam F. Davis winner No More Time. The D’Angelo runner will attract betting dollars, but the favorite is going to be Chad Brown trained Domestic Product, second in the Grade 3 Holy Bull in the last and one of the top rated Derby prospects in the nation.

Drip, Everdoit, and another Brown runner, Good Money, will have their fans. Watch how Todd Pletcher trained Heartened runs. If Heartened finishes in the top three, Todd may have another Derby contender.

Horse Racing Exchange Wagering to be Launched in New Jersey, 2016

Previous Betting News

As one of the pioneers of legalized sports betting in the in the United States, New Jersey is taking another step towards making sportsbetting even more enjoyable and accommodative, particularly to horse racing exchange betting enthusiasts. After they received licenses to operate in exchange wagering from the New Jersey Racing Commission back in November 2015, Betfair US and Darby Development announced last Wednesday that the Garden State is closer to launching exchange wagering on horse races. In fact, if all goes well as planned, bettors will be able to enjoy the exchange betting services as soon as the launch is done on May 10th.

Horse Racing Exchange Wagering to be Launched in New Jersey

Benefits of Exchange Wagering

Unlike the current (and rather limiting) pari-mutuel betting system that requires horse racing bettors to place their wagers without knowing what their final betting odds will be; the exchange wagering allows players to take fixed odds that are locked in at the exact time of their transaction while also making it possible for bettors to request for better odds from those on the exchange platform.

Another advantage about exchange wagering is that you can place a bet against a horse while also trade a horse during the running of a race; something that works perfectly for lovers of live betting. As if that isn’t enough, bettors only pay a commission of around 12 percent of winnings as opposed to the usual takeout rates that charge as much 20 percent in the pari-mutuel wagering. This means more profits for gamblers.

For New Jersey residents, the exchange wagering will also allow the players to participate on the forums actively, unlike the account wagering system in Nevada where visitors are limited to setting up accounts only when they’re visiting.

Market Potential for Horse Racing Exchange Wagering in New Jersey

Betfair, whose parent company is Paddy Power Betfair after the two companies merged in February, pioneered the betting exchange system in the United Kingdom in 2000 and has seen an exponential growth in its clientele base, averaging more than 3 million transactions worldwide per day. Not to forget, Betfair US started its foray into the U.S. market in 2009 with the purchase of the Television Games Network (TVG) and has seen a wild growth in its customers, with New Jersey reportedly offering a perfect opportunity to kick-start the exchange wagering in America.

“Our experience in the UK and other markets has proven that exchange wagering is an attractive prospect for consumers and that it can bring new customers, increased engagement and new revenue to horse racing,” said Kip Levin, CEO of Betfair US. “New Jersey is a great place for us to start and then take our data to other states,” he added.

For interested customers, all you need is to deposit money into a wagering account (Betfair operates the online Betfair Casino in partnership with the Golden Nugget and the 4NJBets wagering platform), though betting can easily be done from the phone, PC or tablet.

Tampa Bay Downs Picks for Wednesday, April 29

Race 4 – 2:30 pm ET – 6 Furlongs Dirt – $8,000 Claiming

Luis Dominguez drops Shakem N Breakem from $16k claiming to $8,000 claiming. Dominguez is 1-of-3 with the move. Shakem won 3 back. The gelding posted a nice work on April 21. If jockey Ronald Allen Jr. can keep this one closer to the pace, Shakem N Breakem should be tough to keep out of the winner’s circle.

5/2 on the morning line Horse Racing Odds  Gilded Drama hails from the Gerald Bennett barn. The 23% winning trainer gets the services of jockey Samy Camacho. That alone makes Gilded Drama the one to beat. Samy ensures an exacta finish. Consider for the win if the odds drift higher than the morning line.

Kalu is a 4-year-old gelded son of Ghostzapper. Godolphin owns the Eoin Harty trained runner. If Godolphin is willing to give up on this one, we had better be suspect of Kalu’s chances of winning the race. Third is a possibility. If you bet Kalu to win, you’re playing with fire.

Win: Shakem N Breakem
Place: Gilded Drama
Show: Kalu

Race 5 – 3:00 pm ET – 1 Mile Turf –$75,000 Allowance Optional Claiming

John Rigattieri trained Ally Oop Johnny could get lost in the betting. The morning line is 8/1 but don’t be surprised if we get 10/1 or more. A Chad Brown trained runner and a Michael Stidham trained runner are scheduled to start. The cut back to a mile makes Johnny tough. If the gelding runs back to the performance in the Columbia, it could win this.

Michael Stidham traines Tabled. The Godolphin owned runner finished second by a head in its last. Unlike Ally Oop Johnny, this one won’t get lost in the betting. Don’t put on top unless the price is right.

Amends had a rough go of it in his first race since last December. The Claude McGaughey trained, and Uncle Mo sired 3-year-old colt never picked up its feet in its last when finishing tenth in a 1 1/8 mile turf event. Shug keeps this one on the turf. Amends should improve big time. So, use on top and bottom.

Win: Ally Oop Johnny
Place: Tabled
Show: Amends

Race 6 – 3:30 pm ET – 7 Furlongs Dirt –$8,000 Claiming

This is 4-year-old filly Rachiely’s Dream’s to lose. Trainer Pedro Martinez hasn’t won with the turf to dirt angle. But Dream ran her best race after bombing in a turf event two back. She ran on the turf in her last and bombed. Rachiely’s Dream should get a great spot tracking likely front runner Premier Justice.

John Rigattieri puts the saddle on Premier Justice. The 3-year-old filly ran awful in her last. However, that was her first since racing in a $20,000 claimer in January. She can improve enough off that performance to save second.

Elusive Aura finished second in her last. She may have lucked into the place spot because she went off at over 53/1. She’s good enough to get into the trifecta. But it’s hard to see her duplicating the last effort and scoring another second-place finish.

Win: Rachiely’s Dream
Place: Premier Justice
Show: Elusive Aura

Race 4 – 1:52 pm ET – 7 Furlongs Dirt – $25,000 Waiver Claiming

There’s a lot to like about Kathleen O’Connell trained Countess Jessica. The Animal Kingdom sired 3-year-old filly has yet to break her maiden. She ran in a much tougher race in her last, though. She’s got speed and finished second over this dirt at this distance in her first lifetime race. The jockey switch to Antonio Gallardo completes the package.

La Belle de Course finished third by a half a length in her last race. The filly has a win, a second, and a third in 5 races at Tampa Bay. She could get a nice trip right off Countess Jessica. But the odds will be short, which is why we shun for the top spot.

Samy Camacho sticks with Diamond News. The Gerald Bennett trained runner has finished out of the top 3 in one race out of ten. She’s another with a shot to win. But News could bounce because she ran well in her last and goes up in class. Consider for the win only if the odds drift higher than the morning line.

Win: Countess Jessica
Place: La Belle de Course

Race 7 – 3:27 pm ET – 1 Mile Turf –$16,000 Claiming

Trainer Anthony Granitz may have found Barrel of Destiny’s best level and distance. In the 5-year-old mare’s first for Granitz, she performed okay at the $32,000 claiming level. Granitz dropped her price in half and switched pilots to Gallardo. She won by a neck. This event sets up just like that race. Antonio will make sure she has a shot as they turn for home.

On March 21, Igottawhiteface went off the chalk in a carbon copy race to this event. The Michael Tomlinson runner failed to sustain a bid after shifting out and going 3-wide. With a better trip, she can make amends on Friday. The problem with putting her on top? She’s never run as fast as Barrel of Destiny has in that one’s last two.

Haniel will get some play. But this event appears much too short for the Rory Barron trainee. With a fast pace, third is a possibility.

Win: Barrel of Destiny
Place: Igottawhiteface
Show: Haniel

Race 8 – 4:00 pm ET – 1 Mile Turf –$20,000 Allowance

Jordan Blair trained Designing should get a great trip right off Sweetly Maiden and Marnie Girl. The 5-year-old mare bombed in her last. Blair wins 24% at the meet, 40% blinkers off, and 23% first after the claim. The jockey switch to Daniel Centeno helps.

Agi’s Cat barely missed in a similar race on March 7. Cat gets the rail where jockey Harry Hernandez can decide to take the lead or track from the inside. The blinkers could do the trick for the 6/1 on the morning line Tale of the Cat filly.

Connectivity has 3 firsts, 2 seconds, and a third from 9 races. The Midshipman sired 4-year-old filly goes first time for trainer Robert Hess after racing for Steve Asmussen. Hess can get them ready first time, but the chalk is a closer. Also, Connectivity hasn’t raced at a mile since an event at Saratoga back in August 2019.

Win: Designing
Place: Agi’s Cat
Show: Connectivity

Gulfstream Park Picks for Friday, April 17

Race 3 – 2:07 pm ET – 1 Mile Dirt – $6,250 Claiming

Price horses can pop at $6,250 claiming races at Gulfstream Park. That’s why we’ll have no regrets if 10/1 morning line choice Sensational Ride doesn’t finish in the Top 3 on Friday. The Dunkirk sired 7-year-old gelding gets a nice setup running in a race with limited speed. Trainer Oscar Gonzalez claimed at $8,000 and drops. Oscar is 1-of-2 with the move.

Another 7-year-old gelding, Big Boy Bruno, deserves exacta consideration. Bruno has a massive 10-6-12 record from 40 races. The gelding has a 7-6-9 record from 38 races at Gulfstream Park and a 2-2-6 record from 16 races at the distance. Jockey Victor Lebron should keep Bruno closer than usual since the pro breaks from post-position 1. Blinkers go back on. That’s a 15% winning move for Peter Walder.

Millionaire Runner is 8/5 on the morning line. Those odds suggest that Runner takes off and wins by open lengths. That could happen. But at this level, closers can run into all sorts of trouble. Also, the chalk has 2 wins from 44 races. Not a great sign.

Win: Sensational Ride
Place: Big Boy Bruno
Show: Millionaire Runner

Race 6 – 3:43 pm ET – 7 Furlongs Dirt – $62,500 Allowance Optional Claiming

Sniper Shot will be odds-on. The Todd Pletcher trainee is 6/5 on the morning line Horse Racing Odds. That means 3/5, heck, 2/5 is a real possibility. But in races like the sixth at Gulf, it makes sense to find value in the exotics. Don’t try to beat a favorite that’s so obvious. Sometimes, it makes sense to just swallow the low odds, don’t make a win bet, and try to pad the exacta and trifecta.

We’ll pad the exacta with 20/1 on the morning line Glory Florida. Trainer Antonio Sano hasn’t had an awesome meet. He’s got 14 winners from 197 runners. Florida, though, could race well on Friday. The Dialed In sired colt had a nice third place finish in it’s last, a $50K claimer. That sets this one up well for the run on April 17.

Tiz Mischief hasn’t raced since last May. The work tab isn’t bad, though. Plus, this one breaks from the rail and produced its absolute best speed rating at this distance. The 12/1 morning line will add some value to the tri.

Win: Sniper Shot
Place: Dialed In
Show: Tiz Mischief

Race 9 – 5:17 pm ET – 6 Furlongs Dirt – $62,500 Allowance Optional Claiming

Saffie Joseph Jr. puts the saddle on Yodel E.A. Who, a 7/2 morning line choice sired by Creative Cause. Joseph wins 24% with horses racing off 46 to 90 days from the bench. Saffie wins 34% with beaten favorites in their next race and 26% with his sprinters. The top choice has a sweet 5-4-2 record from 16 starts.

Fortin Hill offers no value, but the 9/5 morning line choice should finish no worse than second. Trainer Chad Brown wins 30% with horses coming off a 90+ days layoff and ponies that he ships. This one broke it’s maiden and won it’s second race at Belmont. That was last June. Still, Fortin Hill has all the makings of a stakes runner for Brown.

21% winning trainer Marcial Navarro puts the saddle on Vinnie Van Go. The speedy 4-year-old gelded sone of J P’s Gusto has an awesome 6-4-2 record from 19 starts. But Van Go hasn’t raced since February and this field is much tougher than what Vinnie is used to.

Live Horse Racing Odds Win: Yodel E.A. Who
