Big 12 Conference

The Houston Cougars is a highly successful program dating back to its founding in 1945. The Cougars are tied for 10th all-time in NCAA Tournament Final Four appearances, making them a basketball powerhouse. Houston was invited to join the Big 12 Conference in September 2021 along with Cincinnati, UCF and BYU and began Big 12 play in the 2023-24 season.

As for rivalries, Houston has more than one going on, but its rivalry with the Rice Owls has its own award: the “Bayou Cup,” which has always generated interesting betting props for the each game. Houston’s time in the Southwest Conference generated rivalries with Texas Longhorns and Texas Tech Red Raiders. As in the American Athletic Conference, two rivalries emerged: Memphis Tigers, Cincinnati Bearcats and mainly the SMU Mustangs. The last notable rivalry was the Tulsa Golden Hurricane in the Conference USA era.
