Series History
First meeting of season. The Wizards swept the Pistons last season, 3-0, and have now swept Detroit in back-to-back seasons for the first time in series history. The Wizards have won eight of the last nine season series against the Pistons dating back to the start of the 2014-15 season. The Wizards have won eight straight games against the Pistons which is good for the second-longest win streak against Detroit in series history (longest is 13, 2/10/68 – 1/22/70). Washington has claimed three-straight road contests against Detroit. This marks the teams’ longest road win streak in the series since winning three in a row from 3/7/80-1/15/81.

Why Bet on Washington?
Washington lost its ninth in a row Saturday, 136-108 to Atlanta. Guard Jordan Poole was a late scratch due to left ankle soreness and is questionable Monday. Poole averages 17.7 points per game. Corey Kispert started in his absence in Saturday’s loss to Atlanta, while Bilal Coulibaly and Jared Butler saw enlarged workloads. Kispert had 10 points. Poole has scored in double figures in 14 of 15 games this season, including topping 20+ points in three straight games. Has notched at least one steal in eight games this season and is averaging a career-best 1.1 steals per game this season.
Kyle Kuzma posted a solid line on Saturday with 12 points, seven rebounds and eight assists. Kuzma was limited to 25 minutes in this game because of how bad they were getting blown out. Across his minutes, they were outscored by 25 points. Kuzma’s stat line wasn’t bad, but he didn’t have time to add to his production because he got pulled from the game. That hasn’t happened often this season, because Washington hasn’t been blown out much despite now sitting at 2-14 on the season.
Kuzma scored 20+ points in seven straight games to open up the season, becoming the first Wizard to begin a season with at least five straight 20-point games since Bradley Beal began the 2019-20 season with nine straight 20-point scoring games. He recently eclipsed 7000 career points, becoming the fourth player in the 2017 NBA Draft class to eclipse this mark.
Jared Butler led the Wizards with 13 points on Saturday. Coach Wes Unseld Jr. turned to the third-year guard that is currently on a two-way contract and Butler ended up having a solid night in 16 minutes, but he isn’t going to see consistent minutes for this team. Butler had played in a total of 12 minutes across four games before Saturday.
Deni Avdija is shooting the ball at a career-high .510 clip this season and is averaging single-season highs in points (11.8) and assists (3.4) per game . Daniel Gafford has 10 multi-block games on the campaign. His .732 field goal percentage recorded during the 2022-23 season ranks as the highest-ever for a Wizards player in a single season. Tyus Jones led the NBA in assist-to-turnover ratio (5.64) last year for the fifth consecutive season (2022-23), an NBA-record streak. Is averaging a career-best 10.9 points per game this season.

Why Bet on Detroit?
The Pistons are on a 13-game losing streak following a 136-113 loss at Indiana on Friday. Former No. 1 overall pick Cade Cunningham recorded 31 points, five assists and three rebounds. Cunningham was impressive despite the 23-point loss, and the point guard continues to enhance his role as Detroit’s main offensive threat every time he steps on the court. He’s taken a leap forward compared to last season and has looked productive in a struggling Pistons team, averaging 22.0 points and 7.1 assists per game.
Second-year guard Jaden Ivey closed with 25 points in 32 minutes. Ivey started the season on the bench but has started the last three games for Detroit, and his uptick in numbers has been noticeable — he has surpassed the 15-point plateau in two of those contests. Ivey has scored in double figures in four of his last five contests. Jalen Duren (ankle) registered 13 points and 13 rebounds. Though Detroit opted to ease Duren back from a five-game absence due to injury as a bench player, he saw a fairly standard amount of playing time and came through with an efficient double-double.
Another big man, Isaiah Stewart, leads the team (qualified players) with a career-high .414 three-point shooting percentage, 10th-highest among qualified NBA power forwards and centers. Stewart is tied for the team lead with five double-doubles and ranks second in rebounds.
Pistons forward Bojan Bogdanovic played in 26 games for the Wizards during a part of the 2016-17 season, owning averages of 12.7 points and 3.1 rebounds per game. Bogdanovic hasn’t debuted yet this season due to a calf injury but is getting close. It just won’t be Monday. Detroit guard Monte Morris was a member of the Wizards for one season (2022-23), appearing in 62 games (61 starts) and posting averages of 10.3 points, 3.4 rebounds and 5.3 assists per game.
Marvin Bagley, 24, has been one of the Pistons’ most consistent players on a 2-14 team, averaging 11.3 points and 5.1 rebounds in just 19.5 minutes per game. His 59.1% field goal percentage is the best of his career by a wide margin — his previous high was 52.9%. He’s living up to the charge his new head coach, Monty Williams, set for him before training camp, despite making five starts in 15 appearances.
Assistant coach Dan Burke, who joined Williams’ new coaching staff during the offseason, is dealing with a personal matter, Williams said Sunday. It’s unclear when Burke will return. Burke was last spotted on the Pistons’ bench Oct. 30 when the team faced the Oklahoma City Thunder on the road, missing the past 12 games, all losses. Burke, 64 is the Pistons’ most experienced coach, and they are only his fourth stop since his NBA coaching career began in 1989 with the Portland Trail Blazers.
