Writer’s Picks for the New Mexico Bowl Game
Betting Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Lines
Louisiana enters this game with a solid 10-3 record but faces an uphill battle due to key injuries.
Starting quarterback Ben Wooldridge, who earned Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Year honors, is out for the season.
Backup Chandler Fields was also injured in the Sun Belt Championship, leaving the Ragin’ Cajuns down to their third-string quarterback, true freshman Daniel Beale.
Offensively, Louisiana’s depth has been severely impacted.
Tight end Terrance Carter and wide receivers Harvey Broussard and Robert Williams have all left via the transfer portal or injury.
Running back Bud Davis, who led the team with 777 rushing yards, and Zylan Perry (619 yards) will carry the load, but without a consistent passing threat, the offense becomes predictable.
Defensively, Louisiana has struggled, particularly in the red zone, where they rank last in the nation in opponent scoring efficiency.
With their best defensive player, safety Tyree Skipper, questionable due to injury, the Ragin’ Cajuns will have difficulty containing TCU’s dynamic offense.
Betting TCU Horned Frogs Lines
TCU’s 8-4 record marks a rebound from recent struggles, but the team isn’t without its own issues.
The Horned Frogs will be without leading rusher Cam Cook (transfer portal) and top wide receivers Savion Williams and Jack Bech (injuries).
Despite these losses, quarterback Josh Hoover has been efficient, throwing for over 2,500 yards and leading an offense ranked 23rd in yards per play.
Defensively, TCU has shown improvement in the latter part of the season, allowing just 17 points per game over their final three contests.
The Horned Frogs’ pass rush, led by Dylan Horton, will look to exploit Louisiana’s thin offensive line and untested quarterback.
While TCU’s defense has been inconsistent at times, their ability to pressure quarterbacks and force mistakes gives them a clear edge against a depleted Louisiana offense.
2024 New Mexico Bowl Pick and Score Prediction
The injuries and opt-outs have tilted this matchup heavily in TCU’s favor.
Louisiana’s third-string quarterback and depleted receiving corps will struggle to move the ball effectively, while TCU’s balanced offense should capitalize on the Ragin’ Cajuns’ defensive weaknesses.
TCU’s depth, improved defense, and offensive efficiency make them the clear favorite.
The Frogs should control the game from start to finish, covering the spread and pushing the total over the number.
Final Score Prediction: TCU 48, Louisiana 24
NCAAF Bowl ATS Pick: TCU -13.5

2023 New Mexico Bowl Odds to Win: TCU vs. Louisiana
Previous Betting News
From University Stadium in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the Isleta New Mexico Bowl will take place on Saturday. The game will feature the New Mexico State Aggies against the Fresno State Bulldogs.
The New Mexico State Aggies are 10-4 on the season, and finished as the runner up of Conference USA. The Aggies lost in the conference title game on December 1st to Liberty 49-35. The Aggies are playing in their second straight bowl game and sixth overall. They are 4-0-1 in school history, including a 24-19 win over Bowling Green last season in the Quick Lane Bowl.
For the Fresno State Bulldogs, after going 8-4 on the season, you would think it would be a happy ending for the Bulldogs. But, losing three straight games to end the season soured their 2023 campaign. The Bulldogs fell on the road at San Diego State to finish the regular season. Fresno State is playing in their 31st bowl game in school history. They have won four in a row, and back to back seasons. Last season, they won the LA Bowl over the Washington State Cougars by 23 points.
The New Mexico State Aggies are favorites in the NCAAF odds. The Aggies are listed at -3.5 in this affair. The total is set at 51 points.

Jerry Kill’s New Mexico State Aggies
One of the most impressive coaching jobs in College Football has been the work Jerry Kill has done with the New Mexico State Aggies. The Aggies lost their first game of the season to UMass, but rallied to win 10 of their final 13. Not just that though, the Aggies used to be a laughing stock in College Football.
In 14 games, the Aggies scored 28.7 points per game, and allowed teams to score 21.8 per game. The rushing attack ranked 11th in the country with more than 203 yards per game. Diego Pavia, the quarterback, led the team in rushing, as he went 158 times for 851 yards and 6 touchdowns.
Jonathan Brady has been the top receiving threat for the Aggies. He caught 37 passes for 613 yards and four touchdowns.
Fresno State Bulldogs
Things were looking great for the Bulldogs, as they had won 8 out of their first 9 games, with their lone loss on the road at Wyoming. But, then things went down hill. A 42-18 loss at San Jose State started it. They followed it up with a loss to New Mexico at home, and then the road loss at San Diego State.
Head coach Jeff Tedford has had to step away due to health issues, so the Bulldogs are led by interim coaches. The Bulldogs scored 30.1 points per game, led by the passing attack. Mikey Keene needs 404 yards in this game to reach 3,000, but tossed for 21 touchdowns this season.
Erik Brooks was the top target, with 55 receptions and 711 yards. Malik Sherrod leads the running attack for Fresno State. He carried the football 152 times for 876 yards and nine touchdowns.
Aggies Top Bulldogs
The New Mexico State Aggies are a well coached College Football team. We like them to win this game in front of more of a home crowd than Fresno State. The Bulldogs struggled down the stretch, and this is a big ask to battle back and win a month later. The final bet for this game is Jerry Kill and his New Mexico State Aggies -3.5 over the Fresno State Bulldogs.
